[Name]'s POV
"[Name]!"
My head snaps up, and I look wide-eyed at Deadman. An apologetic smile tugs at my lips, and I shake my head. "Sorry, I zoned out. What is it you want me to do?"
His eyebrows furrow for a second before he replies, "I need a sample of your power, so if you'd please use some on the ground, that would be helpful."
"Right." I nod, allowing the red substance to surround my arm.
I shoot some onto the ground, and Deadman hums while a glass container surrounds the substance. "Thanks, [Name]. I'll contact you with what we find."
"No problem. Be seeing you." I wave to him before leaving the medical center.
I jog back to the distro center at Capital Knot, spotting Sam standing at the access terminal. He looks over as I approach, nodding his head to the cargo belt.
"The weapons Mama made are hematic grenades," he states as I open the container they're in and pull out four. "I fabricated those for you."
"Thanks, Sam." I nod to him before storing the grenades on my body.
"Mama wanted me to warn you that the grenades are fueled by our blood, so don't go givin' yourself anemia."
I laugh quietly and nod my head. "I won't. Now, it looks like you already received the order for Port Knot. Let's get the trikes and head out."
Sam pulls up the garage option on the terminal and chooses the two trikes we stored, causing the elevator platform to lower and then rise up with our trikes. We get on our vehicles and power them up before riding out of the building and making our way to the exit of the city.
Mine and Sam's cuff links make a sound, and Mama's voice comes through, "[Name], Sam, you both up for performing an experiment with hematic grenades?"
"Yeah, if we come across a BT-infested area, we'll try them out. Plus, if something goes wrong, I'll just use my power," I respond as I ride along the dirt path, following the waypoint I have set up.
~four hours later~
"Sam, do you want to try the hematic grenade?" I whisper as we idle on our trikes in a BT-infested area.
"It seems like a waste to try it on the Gazers," he mutters, and I nod in agreement.
"It would be, which is why we need to drag the Catcher out. I'll let myself get caught, but you be ready to try the grenades. If they fail, I'll take the thing out with my power. If it works, you can help me fight."
He nods, and I swing one of my legs over the trike and get off before sprinting across the ground. I slow down as a Gazer comes down to the ground and starts hunting me, the ground under me turning to tar while BTs climb onto me.
I'm suddenly swept off my feet and dragged forward. Tar spreads out everywhere as the Catcher that looks like a marine creature appears. I grab one of the grenades I have on me and pull the pin out, keeping the safety lever held down.
Sam looks at me and nods before throwing his grenade at the creature. I throw mine a second after, and both grenades explode, dealing damage to the beast.
"It works!" I shout with a smile while the red substance covers my arm. "Now, let's take this thing out."
Sam throws another grenade while I shoot the creature with harden shards of my power. The grenade explodes, causing the Catcher to take damage before diving into the tar.
I shoot beams of my power at the tar around us until the Catcher reappears. A flashing light comes from its mouth as it lunges at me, but I quickly make a barrier with my power to avoid the attack.
