Hayley
I remember the first time I called Jules my older sister. Her smile was so huge. I was happy that I made her happy. I honestly don't think she's ever smiled that big in her life. That was the first time, and she hasn't smiled like that since. It was pure happiness and joy radiating from her. I really hope that happens again.
And then it did.
"Hayley," she said.
I looked up from my homework and towards the door to my room. Juli was standing at the entrance. I took out my earbuds as she closed the door behind her.
"I think I'm ready," she smiled.
"For what?" I asked.
"To start becoming myself," she beamed.
It happened. The smile happened again.
"The smile's back," I smiled, mumbling the words.
"What?"
"I told you that you were the best older sister anyone could have a few days after you came out to me, and you had this amazing energy. It was like you were almost ecstatic," I explained.
"I remember that," she grinned. "I kinda feel like that now."
I smiled, but I know Jules could tell something was off.
"You okay?"
I sighed. "I just don't want anything bad to happen to you. Kids at school could be mean, and the fans might be mean too. I'm just kinda scared," I admitted.
Juli sat down next to me. "I'm scared too. Terrified, actually. But the later I wait to do anything about it, the worse my transition might be. I'm willing to take the risk."
I nodded my head. "Well, when are you gonna start?"
"I was texting Asher—"
"Ooh, the boy you like," I interrupted, wiggling my eyebrows.
"Ugh, shut up, Hay," she joked.
I laughed.
"No, umm, so we were talking, and I think it'd be best if we start small. Like maybe I'll just start with wearing makeup and clothes that don't look too feminine. Or should I start with clothes and not makeup?" She asked my opinion.
"Oh, uhh, I don't know. If I were someone that didn't know you, I'd personally be confused if you were dressing feminine but still said you're a guy, well, at least to people that don't know you're trans."
"So, should I tell people my new name and pronouns first, or should I do my clothes and stuff at the same time, or later?"
"Maybe do light makeup, nothing too noticeable. And do the thing with the clothes you said, nothing overly feminine. You can always see how people react before you do more," I said.
"That makes sense," she said. "Thanks Hayley, you're the best."
She started towards the door. "No problem, big sis."
She turned around and gave me a small smile.

Julianna
The next morning, I woke up even before the earlier alarm I had set. I usually get up at around 6:30 and in order to have time to pick and outfit and do makeup, I moved my alarm back to 6:15. I woke up at 5:58.
