I read through Ryan James' dads record and things don't look good.

Theft, drug distribution, drug possession, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, and criminal conspiracy.

Not good.

He is, unsurprisingly, in jail as I write this (I hope). And as it turns out, I got him arrested. So I really hope he is still in jail and not about to snipe me through the open window...

I checked. I don't think I'm about to be sniped. If I am and anybody finds this book, I'm sorry I was stupid and please, for the love of everything good in this world, DON'T go through my bedroom. Please. I have old drawings in there and they're embarrassing.

Back to topic, what I read was both very concerning and very telling. The man was called Arthur Matson and was implicated in one of my earlier cases from around three years ago. I don't know exactly how he got twisted into it, but I know that he was selling bad drugs to dealers, knowing that they were bad and likely to cause some serious damage. I should check in with that case again to see how it progressed, but by the looks of things, it went a little deeper than I first realised. The original man who I was investigating back then, Daniel Thompson, was part of the gang who were committing all sorts of crimes from theft to assault for the sake of money. There's a chance the gang wasn't entirely disbanded and they could potentially be involved in what happened with Jason Barber.

That, however, is a very very loose theory as I have no real evidence for that. But, if members of the gang knew Ryan, and the gang was as big and as intricate as it was, then they could have potentially helped in hiding the evidence and covering it up. But again, that's just a theory.

What I can definitely take away from this is that Ryan would have connections to large criminals, seeing as at the time of Arthur Matson's arrest, Ryan was living with him. What has thrown me for a bit of a loop is his name though. Was he a step-father and that is why their surnames are different? I can't find a record of Ryan's mother, so I can't know for sure. Maybe it's a way to hide and distance himself from his father.

On another note, I was able to confirm that Jason would have been able to get home from school in under half an hour. That means that Amelia Karr's story that he went home to pick something up then went out again could be true. What I still don't know is how she was able to call him on the 4th when his broken phone was found on the 2nd.

Maybe I can see if anybody else was able to get through to him on the 4th. I don't know how I would even begin to do that when I can't currently ask anything about Jason directly to the people involved (it would be too suspicious). But if I can somehow do that, then that could confirm her story and possibly imply that again, the evidence from this case was tampered with.

It's becoming more than a little frustrating and I wonder if there is any way I could track the evidence that was lost. Maybe there are articles about the crime from two years ago that mention something...?

I'm going to search for and watch any news stories from the time Jason went missing. It's possible that some evidence went public that has since been lost and that could be the only way to get my hands on it.
