NOVEMBER 2000

❝ guess what i heard near the
music room ❞ doyoung poked his
seatmate's shoulder, gaining
his attention. ❝ shut up. pay
attention. ❞ jaehyun rolled
his eyes, facing back to the
chalkboard. ❝ whatever, i'll tell
you anyways. i heard mark
and his siblings are moving to
the states! ❞ doyoung whisper-
shouted.

jaehyun crossed his eyebrows,
not being able to process the
given information as quickly
as he usually does. ❝ does that
mean tae— ❞ but he was cut off.

❝ yeah, t.y. and joohyun too. geez,
you're always thinking about
that guy. do you like him or
something? i thought you
had a crush on johnny at the
beginning of the year. ❞ doyoung
said, twirling his pen with his
fingers. ❝ that was long ago!
everyone knows he's straight. ❞
jaehyun defended himself,
before the two continued to
focus on learning the equation
written on the chalkboard.

taeyong looked in the mirror,
scanning his suit that he was
going to wear for the year-end
celebration. his thoughts were
interrupted when he heard a
click on the door.

❝ the brown looks tacky. ❞
joohyun irked her face, eyeing
the poop brown suit. ❝ you're
really gonna wear that? look;
i know your personality can be
shit sometimes, but i wasn't
expecting you to actually
be the living embodiment of
shit. ❞ she remarked, shaking
her head in disappointment.

❝ well, what do you have in
mind? ❞ taeyong asked the
older girl, meeting eye with
her. ❝ a new color would be
a good start! ❞ she exclaimed,
dragging him out of the room.

❝ that looks much better! ❞
joohyun exclaimed, placing
her hands on taeyong's shoulder
with pride. she stared at
the boy's reflection on the
mirror, a soft smile placed
on her face.

❝ you've grown up. ❞ she
sighed out.

and she was right. taeyong
had evolved and so did she.
he wasn't the small boy she
used to play and argue with
over toy cars or figurines
anymore, because all children
grow up. joohyun couldn't
audibly admit it; she was
perplexed. she didn't know
whether she should be happy
that she was able to see him
grow up while he's alive, or
if she should be devastated
that she won't be able to
see him grow older anytime
soon.

❝ why are you looking at
me like that? ❞ taeyong
chuckled awkwardly. ❝ nah,
just contemplating whether
the bowtie is ugly or it's
just your face. ❞ she teased,
walking away to the cashier
to pay for the suit.
