(Sabine POV)

Ever since he told me about what actually happened in the torture chamber, almost every day, I find myself hugging him and comforting him, I didn't care if it was in public where the whole rebellion could see or in his or my private cabin, his mental state was terrible, and I knew that so I had to fix it. Somehow. It didn't help that Zeb went on an undercover mission just last week so, no one was in his cabin at night. Night fell and Ezra went to his bed unusually early.

"I think I'm gonna head off to my bed now, night guys!" He said

"Woah, you're going to sleep early, Aren't ya?" I said

"Yeah... I just feel pretty tired," Ezra said, but I wasn't convinced but didn't get to continue our conversation as he went inside his room

Later that night

Ugh, I couldn't sleep, I have no idea why. I figured it was because I'm boiling hot but even after I only had shorts and a sports bra on, I still couldn't sleep. I got up out of bed in basically the middle of the night to get a cold drink of water, as I was walking back to my cabin I heard something... 'Is that... crying?' I thought to myself, I looked around to see where it was coming from and then I realised, 'Ezra...' I pressed the side of my head up against his door,

"Yup... that's Ezra crying alright" I whispered to myself, I went inside his room to see him sitting against the end of his bed, knees bent up against his head.

"Ezra? what's wrong?" I asked him. He flinched after hearing my voice, he looked frightened. "Ezra?"

"Sabine... you don't need to be here right now," He said whilst getting out of his bed

"Ezra, I can't leave you here crying," I said softly, crouching down next to him

"No Sabine, you should go," Ezra said his voice getting more low

"No Ezra, tell me"

"I just... keep having flashbacks of my past, when I was a lothrat, scavenging for food starving for days," He said. Started to lay down on the lower bunk on his back, revealing many scars across his back, I gasped.

"Ezra, where did you get all of those scares?" I asked, shocked that a boy of his age would have so many

"Hmph, Sabine... when I was about 12 or 11, I can't remember my exact age but it was... around that time I stole some melooruns from a store. But I... didn't know that the store's owner was so quick, or at least it seemed so because when I went into the alleyway to make my escape the owner of the store was already there, I tried to run the other way but two others where there, I was blocked off so I attempted to give the Meluruns back accepting that it will be a night where I have no food, so I just poured the three Meluruns on the ground and tried to just go around the owner to climb up the wall and sleep on the rooftops..." Ezra started to breathe heavily,

"Then what, Ezra?" Sabine asked,

Ezra gave a look as if he didn't want to continue, "And then he pulled out a knife, grabbed me by the collar when I walked past him and just started..." Ezra started to break down in tears falling out of the bed and sitting up against his bed with his knees slightly bent, "And he just started to hack at my back... long slices across, stabbing. he did it for 30 seconds then he just left me there to die..." I didn't say a word I just sat closer to him and held him tight. He just started to cry and cry and cry, I just sat there in disbelief that someone could do that to a child, so I just hugged him for around half an hour, eventually, I and he fell asleep, together, I fell asleep on his shoulder whilst resting my right hand on his cold chest, and he fell asleep on my head.
