Sophie:
I was about half way around Everglen, and already I was panting hard. But I was in first place, and I couldn't afford to lose to any of my friends. Especially not Keefe.
"What's up, Foster?" I heard Keefe say from my left. I groaned; why couldn't he have run out of breath a while back?
"I'm about to beat you in a race, why do you ask?" I responded, looking over. Somehow, while I was most likely a bright red, sweating, wheezing mess, Keefe remained as good looking as ever. I would never say it out loud, but the messy hair look really worked for him.
Thud.
"Darn it!" I cursed. Keefe had distracted me on purpose, the cheater! Now I lay sprawled on the soft grass, with Keefe looking down at me.
"Beating me? Nah, not a chance. But I guess it isn't my fault girls are always falling for me!" Keefe grinned and ran a hand through his hair. He held out his hand to help me up. I reached up and took his arm, but instead of getting up, I violently yanked him down. Keefe collapsed on the grass next to me laughing. I got up and began to run, but Keefe grabbed my ankle, pulling me down. I begin laughing, and Keefe joined in.
"Ooooooooh what's going on here?" A voice said from behind us. I lifted my head up and made eye contact with Dex. I was pretty sure my face was already bright red, but it probably became volcanic when Fitz and Biana ran up beside Dex.
"Foster here made the mistake of trying to beat me in the race," Keefe said, looking unfazed. He smirked at me, causing me to roll my eyes.
"Please. If you hadn't distracted me I would have won! You cheated!" I yelled.
"Okay, enough! Let's get back inside and have some fun!" Biana chimed in. "The twins and Marella should be here soon anyways, and the Mallowmelt is pretty much cooled."
"Sure," I agreed, getting up. I made eye contact with Dex and he winked at me, grinning. I turned my head and ran back to the front door, trying to compose myself. If anything about right now got to Marella, I would never hear the end of it.
