Josie and Lizzie turned 17. Hope was 18. Josie and Lizzie were aware that in 5 years the merge would take place. The prom was in exactly 8 days and Sebastian didn't ask Lizzie to the dance yet. Lizzie was becoming further and further depressed leading up to the dance. Josie was going with Hope. Josie finally had the courage to ask her. They weren't together for real.
Lizzie laid in her bed crying quietly with the door shut. She let the small droplets fall out of her eyes forcing her pillow a wet patch. She felt embarrassed about herself because she didn't have a date. She had not done her hair for weeks. Her regrowth was dirty blonde. Her hair was straight. Josie would check on her every now and then to brush her hair to make her feel better. Lizzie's depressive episodes were getting worse as she got older. She didn't like the way the medication made her feel zombified. Lizzie had worn the same outfit for two days straight. She managed to change her outfit when she could. Her depressive episodes lasted any where from a couple weeks to months. Her outfit was a simple black zip hoodie and matching black pants by Juicy Couture.
Sebastian walked out of his dorm. He was roommates with Landon. Sebastian went to Alaric's office and waited in a chair. Alaric called Sebastian's name out. "What did you need?" Alaric looked at Sebastian. "I came to ask your blessing." Alaric rolled his eyes. "Sebastian, you know my answer is no." His voice boomed through out the room. Josie walked past the doorway and heard her father. She turned back and pushed the door open. "Excuse me." She closed the door behind her. Sebastian smiled. "What does he want?" Josie looked at Alaric then Sebastian. "I have asked him every day and the answer is no. I would like to bring your daughter joy by accompanying her to the dance. She's been hold up in her room for weeks. This might be quite good for her." Josie smiled. "Dad, please. This would be good for Lizzie." Alaric looked at Josie and sighed. "Fine. I want that Lizzie is not left alone with him at all." Josie nodded and left quickly.
Hope entered Lizzie's room smiling. "Comfort spell?" Lizzie nodded laying down wiping her tears and sitting up trying to look like her eyes weren't puffy from the tears. Hope sat with her as they spoke of trivial things. Josie ran down the hall and a few turns to Lizzie's room. "Hope!" She smiled. Josie sat next to her. "I have good news." Before she could speak, she was hushed by three knocks on the door. "Elizabeth..." Lizzie's eyes opened wide realizing how she looked. "Um, I'm not decent." She became frantic. She patted her hair down and Josie brushed it quickly. Hope zapped a cute black dress on her and heels. "Elizabeth..." Sebastian said a little louder. Lizzie looked in the mirror quickly. She liked what she saw and still felt depressed. "Come in!" Hope and Josie were sitting on the end of Lizzie's bed. Josie looked at Hope giggling a little. Sebastian turned the knob and saw Lizzie. "What are you wearing?" Sebastian puzzled. "You know us girls, just playing with our makeup and hair for the prom.
You know that thing people ask their girlfriend or boyfriend to go to with them. I haven't been asked by anyone yet. I mean, I highly doubt you care or anything." She couldn't shut her mouth. Sebastian had picked up some roses after asking her father to have his blessing to ask his daughter to the dance. "Well, Elizabeth. I wondered if you might like to come to the ball with me?" He pulled the flowers out behind his back using the opposite hand he used to open the door with. "Let me check my- YES!" Lizzie's face lit up with joy. "I will have to fix my hair and dye it before. I just-" Sebastian kissed her. Hope looked at Josie. "Let's leave them alone." Josie grabbed Hope's hand exiting Lizzie's room.
Sebastian looked at Lizzie. He studied her. "I wish I could have asked sooner." He smiled. "I wish you had." Lizzie blushed. "Why didn't you?" She narrowed her brows. Her eye contact onto his was strong. "I asked every day for a month and your father said no. Josie actually helped get his blessing. I didn't want to compel him to say yes to anything without his willing."
Lizzie pulled off the heels and threw them to the corner of her room. "I'm so excited for this." She was a little grouchy on the inside still. This made her happy a little bit. She wished she was normal like everyone else. She knew she would have felt happiness like normal people must.Lizzie snapped her fingers putting her back into her black matching set juicy couture collection. "I think you are beautiful whatever you wear, Elizabeth." Sebastian picked her up and placed her on the bed. "Please, don't mind the hair." She looked away insecurely. "I've spent weeks in my bed. I'm surprised that you like me. My hair looked bad before Josie quickly brushed it. I would like to spent the rest of the day in my bed." She looked sad again and no Sebastian charm could fix her. "I understand." Sebastian pushed a lock of hair behind her ear. "May I lay with you?" Lizzie smiled for a moment. "If you want....." her voice trailed off.
Sebastian laid down with her inviting her to lay on his chest as usual. They cuddled often. He felt the wet patch on the pillow. He made a face that Lizzie didn't catch. "What's been bothering you?" Sebastian played with her hair. "I guess I wanted you to ask me to the dance. I turned 17 and I'm 5 more years closer to being consumed by my own twin. I don't know. I've ruined so many moments of my life where I knew I should have felt happy by feeling sad. I'm broken and I have to accept that." Sebastian nuzzled into her a little bit. "You will never be broken in my eyes." He hated to see Lizzie sad. He pet the top of her head and tried to make her feel better by kissing the top of her head.
Lizzie went quiet. Sebastian found it hard to talk to Lizzie when she was depressed. A book laid on Lizzie's nightstand. Sebastian picked it up. "15th century etiquette? Huh? Trying to impress me?" He smirked and put his other hand on her arm rubbing to calm her. "No..." she snapped back like a child. "It was a joke." He smiled.
Lizzie felt a little lighter than he remembered. She clearly lost her appetite. Sebastian texted Josie to get bring Lizzie some snacks. Lizzie laid there enjoying his sweet smell. Sebastian looked down at his girlfriend. "I love the natural color of your hair and you shouldn't be ashamed of it." Lizzie nodded. Sebastian wanted to get mad at Lizzie for being quiet but, he knew he couldn't because she was dealing with a mental illness harder than most.
Josie knocked on the door with two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and apple juices for the pair laying in bed. "Thank you, Josette." He smiled and Lizzie sat up slowly looking at them feeling slightly hungry. Josie placed them at the end of the bed. "Lizzie, I thought you might be hungry?" Sebastian would have gotten them himself but, he wanted to lay with her.
Josie understood. She left and went to hang out with Hope. "How do you know what I want?" Lizzie smiled. She picked one of the sandwiches and gave the other to Sebastian. The crumbs flew everywhere. She ate it and grabbed the juice box feeling more confident. "Sebastian, I think I'm in love with you." Sebastian was taken aback a little bit. "I've been in love with you since the day I met you."
