Alexander

I have never slept so peacefully and content as I did in Lily's bed with my arms wrapped tightly around her. I had shared a bed with women many a times before, but never slept through the whole night with them. This woman, this beautiful kitten had me hooked, craving and thirsty for more. She was unlike any girl I had ever met and I knew after sleeping with her cradled in my arms, I couldn't ever let her go.

The world was too evil for her. The cruelty she endured almost broke her. But now I was here, I was not going to let anyone else harm her. She was now mine and I was going to protect her from the monsters lurking near to her.

Carefully unwinding my arm from Lily, I picked up my watch that sat on the bedside table and saw that it was now 5am. This was the normal wake up time for me. I often wanted to lay in bed all day and let the world spin by, but time was money and I could not afford to waste time.

Untangling my other arm from Lily's waist, I lent down and placed a delicate kiss on her forehead. A soft smile came onto my face as she smiled and moaned in her sleep before gripping the duvet tightly and turned the other way.

She's too goddamn innocent. Matthew was an complete idiot for letting this beauty go.

Carefully sliding myself out of her bed, I ensured she was completely surrounded by the softness of her duvet before slipping my trousers and T-shirt on. I needed to get back home, but I needed some fresh air and I didn't want to leave my kitten without saying goodbye.

Opening out the bedroom door, I quietly made my way through the dark hallway and straight to the back door I had seen in the kitchen but to my surprise, the door was slightly opened.

Pushing the door open a little more, I stepped out onto the patio and stopped dead in my tracks as my eyes fell upon Isabella who was crying silently into her hands. She was sat on the top step of the stairs leading towards their back-garden.

She was yet to notice me standing a few meters away from her. She continued to cry softly, small sounds escaping her as her body shook slightly.

I didn't know what to do. Crying women made me cringe as I felt useless and never knew how to help. But she was my girlfriend's mother. Isabella was always so bubbly and full of life, but I had never seen someone, so broken.

Taking in a deep breath I slowly walked up to her and purposely let my feet scuff along the floor to indicate she was not alone out here.

I watched as Isabella quickly wiped away her tears before she turned around with a fake smile on her lips.

"Oh hello Alexander. You alright honey?".

Her voice was very shaky but she was staring at me with a smile as if she wasn't bawling into her hands not even seconds ago. It completely baffled me as to how she could be asking me if I was alright when she was the one in pieces.

"Sorry, I just wanted some air. I didn't know you'd be out here as well. And I'm fine thank you".

Isabella smiled at me and nodded. I could feel my mind yell at me just to turn back around and head inside, but I wanted to check on her.

"Mrs Richardson, it's none of my business, but are you alright?. I heard you crying".

Isabella's happy fake smile suddenly broke down into a sad smile.

"Yeah honey. I-I'm fine. When you get to my age anything small can set you off and also please don't call me that, call me Isabella. James told me about you and Lily being official. That means you are now part of the family".

Isabella turned her head away from me and I watched silently as she lifted her head up to the moon and took a deep breath of air in.

"You make her happy. As a parent that's the one wish you want for your child. Come, sit Alexander".

Isabella moved up a little and gestured for me to sit in the space next to her.

Slowly sitting in the space she had pointed out to me, I too stared out into the dark garden.

"Even though you've not been together long at all, I can see how much stronger she is already. You bring out the confidence in her, the confidence that Matthew locked away".

Isabella's focus was completely set on the moon in the distance as she continued to talk. A wave of content flowed through me as she spoke so fluently. I was more than happy to be silent and listen to all she had to say.

"When I found out my baby was abused by her husband it brought back painful memories for me".

"What do you mean?".

Isabella took a deep sigh and turned to face me with tears in her eyes.

"Before I met James I was in a relationship with a man who I thought was my world. I thought everything was perfect. But life had other ideas. He was abusive in more ways than just one. James saved me from him. No one deserves to suffer abuse. And so when my horror story ended, hearing my baby had gone through the same thing broke me, completely shattered my heart. But like James was for me, I believe you are what she really needs. She needs a strong, loyal and loving man. I believe you could be the one she needs. Thank you for taking care of her".

Isabella cupped my cheek and smiled sweetly at me almost looking at me like my mother used to look at me. My heart began to swell as she slowly pulled away from me.

"Thank you" I whispered out still stunned at the whole conversation and the thoughts coursing through my mind.

"You don't ever have to thank me. You are family now". Isabella slowly stood up and rested her hand on my shoulder before pulling away.

"Would you like anything? A cup of coffee or a bacon sandwich?".

"I'm alright thank you".

Isabella nodded softly and turned away from me as she grasped the handle of the back door.

"If you ever just want to talk, I'm a good listener" I called out making Isabella stop dead in her tracks. Isabella turned back to face me with a sweet smile on her lips.

"Thank you Alexander".

Isabella swiftly stepped back into the quiet house and shut the door behind her leaving me alone surrounded in the beauty of their garden.
