Poem: V is for Victory

I win sometimes unexpectedly
I lose sometimes inadvertently
I plan to achieve
Not fall on my knees
Trading douleur* for ecstasy

Chiefs thrash giants then giants will trash chiefs
Cons lose to libs then libs pay in
Elbow grease
Fools become lords
And all but shrills pay in grief
No one cares
About your beliefs

When the hearty become grizzled
And the beauties turn ragged
Trees crack in the wind
And smooth paths turn jagged

Who is in control of all this?
Who runs this ship?
If you think you know
Then prove it
Otherwise your bargain
Is an off-rip

My words may seem
Cocky and whimsical
Better this then false comfort
A sour lemon
Or a popsicle

Wrap it up, poet
Before your knuckles get rapped
And your rhymes are subject
To ras-le-bol**
Readers' strength gets sapped
When their vision blurs
And is overfull
