Chapter 1: The New Recruit

Tokyo: Special Fire Cathedral 8

No POV:

We find ourselves outside of what appears to be a rundown cathedral but in truth it is the station of Fire Force company 8. Right now there are at least five members of this company. Their names are Akitaru Ōbi the captain, Takehisa Hinawa the sargent, Maki Oze fire officer first class, sister Iris the unit's nun and our hero Y/N he is also a fire officer first class.

Right now he is in the office with commander Ōbi discussing the arrival of a new memeber to their unit.

Y/N POV:

"I don't know chief we do need more members but that sharp toothed grin makes him look cocky" I said to Ōbi "listen Y/N we should give him a chance I hear preformed very high in the academy" Ōbi replied. I sighed "as was I, if you say we need him and he's good for it I won't saying anything further about it" I said. Ōbi smiled and patted my shoulder "good because he'll be under your wing when he gets here" Ōbi said.

"Training newbies great" I said "your sarcasm is noted" Ōbi said. The door opened "do you have a problem?" a voice asked. It was sargent Hinawa "no sir I don't" I answered. "Good now get to training or something productive" Hinawa said. I gave my commanding officers a salute and left.

While walking down the hallway I kept thinking about the nickname that Kusakabe recruit was given. Shinra Kusakabe "devil's feet" it was an interesting name. "Don't trust him say we kill him" a voice whispered behind me they were here. It was Lucifer who whispered that to me "give him a chance" Asmodeus said. The rest of them nodded in agreement "give him a trial run" Balrog whispered "let's test him" Fuji whispered Enenra and Kashgar said nothing. "Fine we will give the devil a chance and a test if he fails we kill him" Lucifer said.

Time Skip

I was in the workout room after that I had been working the bag. In the room with me was Maki she was lifting weights. "I still can't believe we're getting a new recruit" she said "been awhile since I came here" I replied "I wonder if it's going to be another girl or how maybe a guy" Maki said. "Don't get your hopes up Maki you get clingy sometimes" I said to her "I am not clingy" Maki said pouting.

Maki put her hands on my shoulder "take a break it's my turn" she said. I hardened ash around my fist and hit the bag one last time almost breaking it. "It still impresses me that you can do that" Maki said "it's a blessing and a curse" I replied. Maki was silent then she spoke up "their talking to you again aren't they" she said. I sighed "I don't know what you are talking about" I said.

Maki hugged me "I'm here if you need me" she said. "There you go again always so clingy" I said. That snapped Maki out of it "wait what I'm...I'm not clingy" she said. "Thank you Maki if there is a problem I'll let you know" I said. Maki smiled "good to know we're a team we gotta help each other out.

Suddenly the alarm went off "we have an Infernal at the Tokyo train station" Ōbi said over the loud speaker. Immediately Maki and I ran to the locker rooms as fast as we could. "Where were you two?" Sargent Hinawa asked frustrated "we were in the workout room" I answered "next time get here faster" Hinawa said. Everyone put on their uniforms Ōbi looked like a knight and Maki looked like a witch. Only Hinawa and I looked normal except I had specially made cloves and boots that would work with my abilities.

We got into the matchbox sister Iris followed behind us. "Be ready for anything" Ōbi said to us all. "You got it chief" I said "call him captain soldier" Hinawa told me. "Yes sir" I replied not wanting to deal with his wrath later.

With that commander Ōbi turned on the matchbox and started to blare the siren. We rode out of the fire cathedral and headed to the location of the infernal.

Time Skip

We finally arrived at the Tokyo station as people were running away. Captain Ōbi directed them all away and to remain calm. We stepped down the stairs to were the infernal was. I noticed a kid with his shoes off then infernal. It faced us down "Y/N give me a smoke screen" Ōbi commanded. "Right away chief" I said getting down on my hands and feet. I opened my mouth as my eyes turned grey. Smoke began to come out my mouth and my hands turned the top layer of the platform into smoke.

Immediately I vanished and began to move the infernal to the right spot for captain Ōbi. I could tell the shoeless kid was trying to watch what was going on. I appeared right behind him "evacuate kid" I told him. The kid got startled and turned around "wow your body is made of smoke" he said amazed. I saw his grin and it looked familiar but I decided to ignore it for now.

Sister Iris had began her prayer as I was getting ready. "Chief do it now!" I yelled as I cleared the smoke. Captain Ōbi shot of a fire extinguisher shell and hit the infernal knocking it back. Before it could move away my smoke began to wrap around the infernal. I then appeared behind the infernal right as Ōbi came up with pile bunker. "Hold him still" captain Ōbi said "yes chief" I said as I began to hold the Infernal's head up.

Captain Ōbi put the pile bunker on the Infernal's core. It tried to fight back and managed to shoot of some flames but Maki deflected them. As sister Iris finished the prayer captain Ōbi finished it off "latom" we all said.

The infernal had returned to the great flame. With the battle over I returned all the smoke to my body. My eyes returned to normal as my body changed back from smoke. "Good job Y/N" captain Ōbi said "don't mention it next time be a little faster chief" I replied.

All of a sudden the boy with no shoes yelled "watch out". I looked over and saw a speaker about to fall on Maki. Immediately I reacted "Fuji" I said right away my body dissapeared into the ground as lava spit out. Then I appeared behind Maki I grabbed her and stuck my arm in the air. It had become a large magma like claw hand. The kid somehow rocketed towards us with flames on his feet. He kicked the speaker away.

With the danger gone my arm returned to normal. "Thank you Y/N you saved me" Maki said "don't thank me thank him" I said pointing at the kid. "What's your name?" Captain Ōbi asked "it's Shinra Kusakabe" he answered with a grin as he gave us a salute.
