dashing behind the bookshelf, she left minhee standing alone with the student registration in his hand

if he isn't sent for extermination this time, then i'm going to jump out the window she squinted her eyes to see a broad finger walk in the room, slamming the door. she could have spent the hinges broke

"minhee" the mans voice was deep, husky per say. but there was this odd feeling rise up in her, almost like familiarity. it wasn't like seeing someone you had seen in the streets again, it was like seeing someone you had seen multiple times that you had began to take in his appearance

"i should leave" minhee's voice almost sounded vulnerable, but with a tint of resistance

"look at me when you talk minhee" the man slammed his hand on the table, shaking the room

"yes" it wasn't until the minhee said the last word that everything came crashing down at her

"father"

her eyes snapped open, nostalgia drowning her brain. it was him, the man who had tried to kidnap her...and the man behind the school

the man that raised minhee

"that's how..." she whispered to herself, her voice trailing off in realisation. minhee wasn't the complete reason her papers where switched 4 years ago, it was his dad. being the principal, he had power over everything, hence to save his son, he almost killed an innocent.

"and that's how he made out it out of every confirmation exam..." she almost scoffed in disgust, using such selfish ways to fulfil his own desire while the population is dying.

minhee escaped every single test and every single exam, because he had anchor.

"the school registration books are off limits" at his words, minhee immediately gave his father the book, his eyes fixed on the ground

"sorry" this was the first time she had ever seen him so small, so useless

"min" she shivered at the nickname

"min-ah, are you going to come back?"

"of course! i'm just graduating from elementary school! i can protect you when i'm all grown up"

"but what if you don't come back?"

"i will! i promise!"

"only leave for a bit ok?"

"my dad told me to give this to you as a gift" he placed the ring encrusted with emeralds into the small girls palm "don't lose it!"

"it's so pretty! i'll show my brother later!"

"look, i have one too" minhee pulled out a piece of paper with a very messy sketch of a ring

"where?"

"i'm going to make it when i'm older!"

"really? that's so cool"

his dads voice hollowed from the truck "minhee it's time to go"

the two engulfed in a hug full of hope

"don't forget me, ok?"

the picture of her brothers ring flashed into her mind, how that was the gift minhee's dad had once given her family, and one of the only things that could calm her down.
