ᴠ. ʙᴇʟɪᴇғs ᴀɴᴅ... ɢᴏɪɴɢ ᴏᴜᴛ?!

“Good morning, Asteria. You did a great job waking up in time.” I praised myself right after I managed to eliminate every fibre of my sleepiness' being.

I immediately detached my lanky body out of the warm and comfortable bed, the desire to construct this day to become one of the unpareil days of my existence swallowed my needs to go back to my beguiling slumber.

Last night, I received an unexpected call from Alecia. She has informed me that our meeting today is cancelled because she have a rendezvous to attend. Unfortunately, no further information was given to me. It seemed like she was in a hurry, so I refrained myself from asking some questions that might ruin her schedule.

Knowing my curiosity, I knew I wasn't going to stop with just one question.

With slow and steady steps, I began sauntering my way towards the direction of my aluminium clad wood, casement window. Apparently, I only have one window in my house, and that is situated on the left corner of my bedroom– just beside my study table.

Almost half of the population of this city believes that window attracts luck. So, if you desire to have a greater chance of receiving some so-called luck, then you must have more windows in your house.

And I simply think that is impossible.

Please do not get the wrong idea, I'm not ridiculing their belief. I mean, we all have something that we believe or rely our faith on. And that is completely normal because we are human beings.

There's no use denying that we usually believe on something that we hear from our parents, grandparents or just from the elders of our country. There might be no scientific evidence, but we do believe on it because a great number of our population does.

For example, some people from specific countries believe that once your path crossed with a cat, which fur is completely black, then you'll experience some misfortunes.

I could also remember my grandmother (who was raised in the Philippines until she was 20 years old), saying that once a picture frame broke, the blinding light of death would shone upon the person who was in that photo.

With that being said, we must not disregard the fact that some people believe in numerous amount of beliefs.

And that is completely normal.

But the most vexating belief that I've heard in my whole existence was the one about the window, which was said to attract luck.

Once you are transported to the inner part of Freedom City, it would be too hard to ignore the humongous amount of windows built on a single house. Small, large, rectangular, circular, star-like, just name it and you'll eventually find your choice as you take your time strolling around the city.

If you're unfortunate enough, thieves might consider breaking through the windows and steal your precious gems or your most valuable technologies.

And that is definitely not on my list.

I pushed my black, heavy curtain to the left side of my casement window. Automatically, the blinding rays of precious sunlight seeped through the polycarbonate glass, nonchalantly resting on my alabaster-colored skin.

I took it as a sign of greeting from the nature. Melancholy crept to my heart as I remembered the articles that I've read online, it was about an intentional forest fire.

The melancholic incident blemished the habitat of animals. Not only that, if you've decided to pay it some extra heed and thoughts, the culprit actually managed to achieve 3 things.

First, he managed to ruin the habitat of the innocent animals. Second, he managed to harm the nature itself. Third, he also gave himself an opportunity to create a manmade building on the spot that was damaged.

I couldn't help but wonder how can they be so heartless.

“Are you goin' to sulk all day, woman?” The familiar sound of Laurent's voice suddenly barged into my ears, shattering the thick glass of thoughts that was caging me.

“Yeah.” I replied as I remained gazing at the view that I could see from my window.

Of course it was a lie!

It's quite early, so the city looks completely deserted. The usual view that I got immediately wounded my eyes and made me feel disappointed, I'm getting tired of gazing at the manmade constructions that stood with different heights and appearance. For God's sake, the excruciating gleam that their glass windows would never fail to emit will make me blind sooner or later.

Why can't I experience a change of scenery?!

“The day's too fuckin' good for that shit.” Laurent complained, his voice ascending a few octaves higher than normal.

“It's a lie.” I pointed out after realizing that he took my response seriously. “You're getting bad at detecting jokes, Renny.”

“Woman... How am I supposed to know that?” He asked me. “You have a fuckin' red alert right now! I'll just agree and agree because I don't want you to get all fuckin' mad at me.”

“Hey! I'm not that bad!” I complained.

“Just get ready.” He ordered me, nonchalantly. It seemed like a normal thing for him to order me around like I'm one of his employees. “We're going out.”

Say what?!
