Over a hundred years into the future, a group of children are forced to have their murders streamed on live television every year, known professionally as the Hunger Games. The leaders of the society, Control and Death were sick of the constant rebellion happening throughout "their" Overseerian districts, giving them no choice in their eyes except to fight back by punishing their children in a fatal arena. Only one person can make it out alive... most of the time.
Meanwhile, teenagers are basically forced to commit crimes to survive on the planet of the Avas, strongly connected with the Overseers, leading to many new members of the Ava Reformation Institution, or ARI. These are the people mostly chosen for tributes in the Hunger Games, as Control wants his perfect society with no rebellion or crime. Penelope Woods, a 14 year old, had only joined a couple months ago when disaster strikes.
