Firstly, I'd just like to point out that although I'm looking at a lot of pictures, I am predominantly using the render above, as it is the highest definition image I can find that is mostly accurate. More on that in another chapter.
Dusk is a hybrid sub-species of 'Fury. This means that the defining characteristics will be a bit different or mixed.
What we can't use:
— Eyes (based on random chance, not gender)
— Spines (have both types, so not gender associated)
— Number of Stubbs (like a Night Fury)
— Number of Tail Flukes (like a Light Fury)And what we can:
— Body Shape
— Wing Curve
— Ear Length
Dusk's positioning is quite interesting, as it looks like the back is arched. But when you look at it, even though the back is arched, the rib cage is still very definably larger than the rest of the body leading to the assumption that Dusk is male:
As always, the ear length is roughly the same, though Dusk's head is on a bit of an angle. You know, that makes the others' ears look thinner and longer. Weird:
Dusk's wingtips are clearly on display. That's good. And interesting. The wing layout seems a bit more like a Light Fury at the end, what with the way it curves right away from the other finger bones. Interesting. I wonder if it's like that for the others? But enough of bone structure. The curve to me seems roughly half and half, but a bit more like Toothless' wings:
The tail is also very visible. What's funny is that the fluke curve is a lot rounder than the wing curve, so that could be to do with age, rather than gender:
And so, my badly collected data shows that to the untrained 'Fury spotter, Dusk appears to be male. What do you reckon?
