Firstly, I'd just like to point out that although I'm looking at a lot of pictures, I am predominantly using the render above, as it is the highest definition image I can find that is mostly accurate. More on that in another chapter.
Eclipse is a hybrid sub-species of 'Fury. This means that the defining characteristics will be a bit different or mixed.
What we can't use:
— Eyes (based on random chance, not gender)
— Spines (have both types, so not gender associated)
— Number of Stubbs (like a Night Fury)
— Number of Tail Flukes (like a Light Fury)And what we can:
— Body Shape
— Wing Curve
— Ear Length
The body shape is harder to see than the others, as this image shows Eclipse from straight on. But, I think it's pretty clear from the shadowing that Eclipse is more like his father:
This position kinda sucks. I can't see any wingtips. Even the tail fluke curve that is gender neutral until these babies grow up is hidden, and I don't like having to resort to one secondary wing from a bad angle. It looks like a 'male' curve, though:
And I'm going to point out that Eclipse's ears look a LOT like Dawn's, making me believe she's female. Even the positioning of the head:
Wow, I'm getting pretty quick at this, aren't I? So my final verdict is that Eclipse is male. Even though I wish it were otherwise. I don't know why.
So, that's all for NightLight genders. Did you approve of my shoddy efforts? Did you notice something that I missed? Tell me in the comments.
(Also, just clarifying, I know about the whole 'Dart, Pouncer and Ruffrunner' thing. I just don't see DreamWorks putting any reasoning behind their choices.)
