Gray

Black is the absence of color,
yet it is the color of space,
of black matter and black holes,
of Beatniks and Johnny Cash,
of Santa Clara pottery,
obsidian and coal.

White is all colors intertwined,
the color of egg shells and angel wings,
surrender and purity,
wedding dresses and whipped cream,
mayonnaise and the light of a nuclear blast.

Gray is the color of where we live,
half way between mayonnaise
and Johnny Cash,
finding a balance
between light and dark,
between all and none,
Yin and Yang,
obsidian and angels.

Gray is the choice
we make to keep us sane,
while seeking creation
and avoiding oblivion.
