What is KIN?
KIN is a long-running drama series produced by Mediacorp, Singapore's largest content creator and national media network.
Why is Wattpad doing a contest for KIN?
Wattpad Studios has partnered with Mediacorp to adapt and develop Wattpad stories for thier platforms. One of the first projects is an adaptation of the Wattpad story Slow Dancing, by Hepburnettes. This contest is an exciting opportunity for Wattpad writers to hone their skills and try writing something new for an established global audience of fans.
I've never seen the show, can I still participate?
Yes! Read through the show summary in Chapter 3 and let the series inspire you. The prompts were created to allow for your own creativity and storytelling to take center stage in your submission, using the KIN universe as inspiration. This is a fanfiction contest, so we expect you to be creative with your entries, but please follow the directions in the prompts provided.
If I win will Mediacorp change my story?
Mediacorp reserves the ability to amend the story as per production requirements and needs during the development process.
If I win, will I be asked to write or help with the script?
Mediacorp has their own team who will develop your story into a special episode for KIN.
What if I'm not selected as a finalist or a winner?
If you are not selected as a finalist we thank you for your participation in our contest, and hope that you'll continue to write on Wattpad!
Can I still post my story on Wattpad if I'm not selected as a finalist or a winner?
Yes. Your story ideas are yours even if you are not selected as a winner for this contest. You can post anything to Wattpad as long as it adheres to Wattpad's content guidelines.
What if I miss the deadline(s) for submitting my pitch or posting my story?
At any stage if your submission is not available to us by the deadline it will not be reviewed or considered for the contest.
Why are the deadlines in SST and the prizes in SGD?
Mediacorp is a company based in Singapore so the timezone and currency is reflected locally for them.
How will I know if you received my entry?
For round one, all pitches sent to the email address opportunity [at] wattpad [dot] com before the deadline will be considered. For the finalists round, all stories posted to Wattpad and tagged #kincontest before the deadline will be reviewed.
Do I need a lot of followers or reads to win?
No. All Wattpad writers can be eligible regardless of the number of reads or followers they have. The entries will be judged based on quality of voice, content originality, and adaptability.
