he waved his phone in hand and with a breathless voice, he said, "hi..."

she said nothing at all.

"umm, i'm sorry i'm late."

again, she just continued to stare.

"north?"

finally she makes a move and dials anonymous' number again and his phone goes off. "you're really—what—i'm so—"

"disappointed?" he whispers as he stared down at his shoes.

she frowned, "i'm confused but not that. i just don't get it, you're the last person who would've likely been el."

"because of what happened after nathan's accident?"

she's silent for a moment, "yeah.."

"well.. in my eyes, you were still my friend after that whole mess. and that's why i did what i did cause you look out for someone you l—for someone."

for a while, they just stared at each other, deciding and wondering what the other was thinking until finally north stretched out her palm towards him. "would you like to take a walk? i think we have a lot to talk about."

in that fraction of a moment, utter relief and bliss surged throughout his chest until tragedy hit in the form of a bright white light blinding them from down the road and a car horn going off.
