The year is 1900. Electric light has just been introduced to Hotel Elegante in Rome, Italy. Izabella Marino, mother of Emilia, Niall, and Bella Marino, is the owner of this enormous hotel. The entire Marino family lives at the esteemed hotel, along with their hundreds of servants, in order to run it. Generally, guests of high class stay there.
Gemma Styles has left home to find work as a maid at the Hotel Elegante. Things seem to be going well and in order until she stops writing letters home. Her brother, Harry, begins to worry, and sets out to understand her sudden absence. Along the way, he meets Emilia Marino and discovers that Gemma Styles' disappearance may not have been an accident.
