Having caught Nagan's tone, Master Dagmire couldn't help but smirk knowing how finicky some eggs could be. "Did something happen?"

Nagan shot a glare at master Dagmire and held out his arm which was holding the egg. There were a few shocked gasps, but they quickly turned to astonishment as the egg held onto his arm. "This is what happened. And she refuses to let go."

After retracting his arm and holding the egg properly, he stalked over to where Az stood who was gazing at the scene with curiosity. He was holding a larger egg. Cool green in color with gold flecks.

"I assume you had an easier time figuring out which was your chosen dragon," he said amused, "since it looks like they made it clear from the start."

Nagan snorted. "It's not like there were very many options. Once the silver dragon was done talking to me, she sent me to that room, and this egg was the only one there. She clung onto me the moment I approached her."

He was met with silence and odd stares.

"...What?"

Az was the first to break the silence. "What do you mean by the silver dragon?"

"You know, the silver dragon," Nagan struggled to grasp for words. "The one who you talked to before receiving the egg. Or perhaps she was stone..."

The students shared a glance before one of them stepped forward. "I don't think any of us saw a dragon," she began. "When we entered, it was just a room full of different eggs. I had to make several laps around before I found my egg."

The rest nodded and agreed.

"Oh." Nagan frowned. Why do all the bizarre things have to happen to me? he complained silently.

"What did the dragon look like exactly? Where did you go?" Master Dagmire asked.

"I--" Nagan drew a blank. Where did he go? What did the room even look like? The more Nagan thought about it, the more he found he couldn't recall. He knew he went somewhere, but it was as if it never happened at all. "I...don't remember."

Master Dagmire looked as if he wanted to ask more questions, as did everyone else, but instead, he gave Nagan a look that said: "We'll talk about this later." He turned to the group of them and said, "While we wait, why don't we discover what your base magic is?"

"But sir," one of the others piped up, "isn't it too early for us to know yet?"

"For those who aren't receiving a dragon, yes," Master Dagmire said, "but the moment you receive your dragon, a bond is formed. And because the bond is formed, your magic immediately doubles in potential. A rapid development we would call it. From this, you now have the magic potential of a fourth-year student."

An excited chatter rose, and Nagan took a glance at the ceiling. Sure enough, there wasn't a single grey orb. All were either a shade of red, blue, or green and orbiting around Master Dagmire's. He tried to spot his own, but it was nearly impossible as the other colors distracted him.

"I'm sure all of you remember this," Master Dagmire began, drawing Nagan's attention back to the desk where he stood. The desk was nearly empty of all papers (thanks to Nagan) and had a familiar basket sitting atop it. After reaching into the basket, Master Dagmire brought out a clear crystal. An amplific quartz.

Oh dear.

Some of those present were in the class Nagan was in, and it was clear they remembered. Much to the confusion of the rest, those few took a step away from him. Much to Nagan's chagrin, Az was one of them.

"Are you sure it's a good idea for me to touch it?" Nagan asked before motioning to the rest. "As you can see, some remember what happened the last time I used an amplific quartz."

Master Dagmire raised a brow. "That happened because you lacked control. I've taught you some spells, and you've managed them well enough. If you break this quartz, I'll be severely disappointed." He held one out to him. "Take it."

One of the more noble students scoffed at the statement, and Nagan was still slightly irritated from before. This felt like a challenge to him. Then it won't break, Nagan thought firmly and held out his free hand. "Vaela ro vai."

The quartz in Master Dagmire's hand gave a shudder before shooting out towards Nagan which he caught in midair. His aim wasn't accurate, but the fact he could get it to come at all was an accomplishment none of the others have achieved yet. Cries of approval and surprise followed.

"Show off," Az whispered from behind but had a small smirk of satisfaction that mirrored Nagan's. They both were fond of making others eat their words (or scoffs in this case).

"Well?" Master Dagmire began once the chattering had died down. "What are you waiting for? I assume you remember how they work, correct?"

With a nod, Nagan focused on the quartz in his hand. It glowed faintly, yet the color was too dull to distinguish. So Nagan pushed more magical energy into it. In an instant, it glowed a brilliant red. It wasn't as bright as Master Dagmire's and was darker in shade, but the fact it was red took Nagan by surprise.

"But he's an Elvar," someone said in astonishment, voicing her thoughts before Nagan could do so himself. "I thought he'd be an elva instead of a drakon."

"Shouldn't base magics follow a family line?" another asked.

"Nageth Elvar was a drakon, wasn't he?" Az piped up, stepping beside Nagan who was still mesmerized by the color. "So according to that, Nagan is following the family line."

Master Dagmire nodded. "Indeed he is. Though base magics tend to be consistent in families, some develop more suited to another. The occurrence is uncommon, but should be expected every few generations." He turned to the basket again and gathered multiple crystals in one hand before facing the students once again. "Now then, with that educational demonstration out of the way, who wants to go next?"

Nagan ignored the rest as they each took a quartz. Instead, he continued to gaze at the deep red color that radiated from his. The color was familiar...and made him feel a sense of security. Perhaps it was the same color his father once wielded.
