Who knew what would happen after stealing some bread from a street stall? Certainly not Nagan. Nothing out of the ordinary should have happened, considering stealing food to survive was the norm. But fate, destiny, karma, whatever you wanted to call...

By a miracle, this ended up being exactly 150 words XD Nagan is around 4-5 years old when this happens:
Nagan pressed himself against the wall, chest heaving and eyes wide with terror.
He went to the storage room for flour so he and Mama could make bread, but he didn't know a snake was there too! Hissing and rearing its ugly head. Mama always said to stay away from standing snakes with flat heads. They were dangerous!
Now Nagan was trapped, the snake between himself and the door.
What would Papa do? He wanted it to stop!
The snake bolted up, hissed, and lunged.
"Sor!"
The snake froze with the chime of a bell ringing in the air. Did he do that? Wasn't that the word Papa said when he dropped something?
"Nagan? Are you alright—" His mother gasped at the door. In two strides she reached her son and crushed the cobra's head before it could move.
Without a word, she lifted her son and carried him out.
