Duty called to him in ways that no
girl
ever could.
His heart was not created soft
like mine.
He was made of better things,
finer things
loftier things.
Faith
and honor
and the drive to
protect
things smaller than himself.
Is there a better clay from which to
fashion
a man?

NOTES ON THIS: This poem, like most of the others listed before it, are about the young man with whom I shared a pure and distanced crush. With the passing of time, he grew into a good man, and though we were parted by our life choices (me going to college and he going into the military) we both still harbored feelings for one another,
