Walk Down Memory Lane

40 15 17

The gravel road stretches long

A walk that's  nought  to be

Yet the legs move of their own accord,

Into uncharted territory.

Bare trees begin to refashion.

Those despondent barks now full of life

the gravel path transforms into,

A yellow brick road, a wonderful site.

Yet these bricks do carry a curse.

Each step delivers a lethal blow.

A smile set free, a joke once shared

All forgotten moments, now resurface.

Regret fills the already heavy heart

The shoulders sag once more.

Those autumn trees more preferable than

To take a step through memory's door.
