Maybe it was the way he treated her, how his voice was kind and caring, or how he held himself with an air of confidence that she has never seen before. He took the time away from his training and was there for her.
The way he was able to soar through the sky was unlike anything she ever thought was possible.
He was also the person that introduced her to her next love - volleyball.

Mayumi sat on the swing sets at a nearby playground close to her elementary school. She didn't want to go home just yet, instead choosing to wait and watch as her classmates were picked up by family members from far away.
The braids in her hair had come loose and messy throughout the day,not being able to keep up and she ran across the school yard during break.
She didn't understand why mom or dad can't pick her up from school. It wasn't difficult, the school was super close to home too! Ki-chan used to walk home with her, but she went to junior high now and Mayumi only had one more year left at her elementary school. It was tough to make friends, Mayumi only had her Ki-chan before.
She couldn't comprehend her feelings, how she felt so lonely in that moment, seeing her classmates being picked up from school by family. It wasn't jealousy or envy, it was just a pit of emptiness filling her, spilling out in the form of tears that streamed down her face.
Mayumi didn't even notice how hard she was crying until she saw a ball come through her blurry vision and it stopped by her feet at the swings.
Rubbing her face to rid herself of the tears, Mayumi saw that the ball had a weird pattern to it - green, red and white colors swirled around the ball. She moved it around in her hands, feeling that it was harder than the kickball they used during P.E. time.
"Hey there kiddo, want to pass the ball back over to me?"
Mayumi whipped her head around and saw him.
He was obviously much taller and older than her, easily distinguishable in a high school uniform. Although it was different from the uniforms she saw other high school students wear, this one made him look like a delinquent. His mess of black hair was slightly curly at the ends, and he looked like he just rolled out of bed even though it was the end of a school day.
When she went to reply, she looked up to his eyes.
His grey eyes seemed to look into her soul.
They honestly scared her with the intensity that burned through them. But this was his ball and she had to return it to the cool-looking high schooler!
She tried to keep her cool and act like an adult, attempting to toss the ball over to him, yet she overestimated her ability way too much, and only tossed it a foot in front of her.
