Chapter Twenty:

Silver Cat・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.

Ramona watched as Robin stood on the fountain, spinning around and mumbling to herself. Her eyebrows furrowed together as she looked over at Steve and Dustin, who were both equally as confused. "Robin?"

"What are you doing.." Steve asked, his voice trailing off as he crossed his arms. Ramona shook her head as Robin turned, planting her feet firmly on the fountain beside her.

"I cracked it." Robin answered, her lips curving into a smile as she locked eyes with Ramona. "I cracked it!"

"Wait.. Cracked what?" Steve asked, glancing over at Ramona, his heart skipping a beat when he saw that she was already looking at him. He forced himself to keep his eyes trained on her face, refusing to let his mind trail back to what he'd seen just over an hour ago.

"Ella descifró el código, tonta." Ramona snickered, nudging Steve and rolling her eyes, "Stupid."

Steve shot Ramona a look, rolling his eyes as she sent him an innocent smile. Ramona watched as Robin jumped off the fountain, her lips curving into a smirk. "I cracked the code."

~~

Ramona shivered as her wet hair stuck to her forehead. Chills shot down her spine as she raised her hand and wiped the water from her vision, not that it helped much due to the intensity of the storm. The thunder boomed around her as she watched the truck back into the mall, the beeping muffled by the heavy rain.

"Look for Imperial Panda and Kaufman Shoes." Robin said, tightening the hood covering her face.

"See anything?" Ramona hissed, watching as Steve slicked his hair back, spitting out water.

"They're with that whistling guy, ten o'clock." Dustin said, glancing up from the binoculars. Ramona nodded, following his gaze.

"What do you think's in there?" Steve asked, causing her to glance over at him momentarily.

"Guns.. bombs-" Dustin started before Robin cut him off.

"Chemical weapons?" She suggested.

"Whatever it is, they're armed to the teeth!" Dustin said, watching as a man dressed in a yellow raincoat rolling a Dolley stacked with boxes.

"Great." Steve said sarcastically, "That's great."

"Hey, what's in there?" Robin asked, pointing to the room filled with more boxes.

"Just more boxes!" Dustin answered, swatting Steve's hands away as he tried to steal the binoculars.

"Let me check it out." Steve said, reaching over to steal the binoculars fro, Dustin's hands.

"No, I'm still looking!"

"Steve, be careful." Ramona muttered, trying to get the attention of the older boy. "Shit. Nosotras estamos jodidas."

"Let me see it!" Steve insisted, trying again to pull the binoculars from Dustin. Ramona's heart sank at the sound of the binoculars crashing onto the metal semi-truck below.

"Duck!" Dustin hissed, quickly ducking behind the wall. Ramona's heart skipped a beat as she hid behind the roof's half wall.

Ramona instinctively reached for Steve's hand, intertwining their fingers as she squeezed her eyes shut. Steve tightened the grip he held on her hand, the sound of his heart hammering against his chest echoing in his ears. By the sound of it, he was sure that Ramona would be able to hear it over the rain. "Did they see us?"

When Ramona noticed that their fingers were interlocked, Ramona gulped, sending him a nervous smile as she pulled her hand away. Steve's heart sunk at this, thinking that maybe there wasn't a chance with her.

~~

Ramona shivered, wrapping her arms around herself as chills shot down her spine. Her teeth chattered as her soaked clothes clung to her skin. Steve glanced over at her, his lips knitting together as he watched her shiver.

"Well, I think we found your Russians." Robin said, water dripping from her hair and onto the floor. Ramona sneezed, reaching up and pushing the wet hair from her eyes. A shiver shot down her spine, causing her to shake violently and let out a small yelp.

"Cold?"

Ramona nodded, her lips tinting blue. "Ob-obviously, Harrington. I-I hate the cold."

"I'd say you could have my jacket.." Steve trailed off, gesturing to the soaking wet garment clinging to his skin.

"It-it's okay." Ramona stammered, another chill shooting down her spine as her hands began shaking, "I've stil-still got the other one in my l-locker at work."

Steve gulped, his cheeks reddening as he looked away from her. "You do?"

"Du-Duh." Ramona chuckled, rubbing her arms as she tried to provide any form of warmth to herself that she could. "Ne-Need a.. a.. Um, recuerdo."

"Souvenir." Dustin said for her, causing the girl to nod absentmindedly.

"Si, si, yes, that." Ramona waved the boy off as she nodded her head slowly.

"She gets a little.. well, out of it, when she gets cold." Dustin explained to Steve and Robin, "She'll start speaking Spanish and only Spanish sometimes, so, Steve, that's why you need to learn Spanish."

"Dustin, shut up." Steve hissed, glancing over at Ramona who had her gaze sent firmly on her feet as she mumbled to herself in Spanish. Dustin raised his hands in surrender as Robin squinted at the two of them, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Wait a second."

~~

Robin watched as Ramona sipped on the hot chocolate, Steve's jacket draped over her shoulders. "So.."

Ramona quirked an eyebrow, looking up from her warm drink and brushing her drying hair from her face, "So?"

"You got a thing for Steve?" Robin asked, sending her a knowing a look as she crossed her arms.

"What? Me and-me and Harrington? No. De ninguna manera. Not happening, definitivamente no." Ramona shook her head quickly, pulling the jacket sleeves over her hands and waving them. "Me and Harrington? You must be.. loca."

Robin rose her eyebrows, listening to Ramona frantically try and deny what Robin knew was true. "Hm. Four denials. Seems like you're into him to me."

"Robin." Ramona groaned, rolling her eyes. "It's Steve!"

"So?" Robin rose her eyebrows, "Aren't you always flirting with him?"

Ramona blushed, causing Robin to snicker. "No way, absolutely not. You're loca."

"I'm intuitive." Robin answered, "And my intuition says you like him."

"Whatever." Ramona muttered, looking into her mug, "It doesn't matter if I did anyway, he's Nancy's ex and that's breakin' all sorts of girl code. So-"

"Isn't she dating your ex?" Robin pointed out, biting into the cake pop she held. Ramona blinked slowly, opening her mouth to say something, but closing it when she realized she had no argument. "So... Tell the truth, would you?"

Ramona rolled her eyes, "Believe what you want."
