Chapter 2

"Keep working! Who told you to slack off?!"

"Yes! I'm sorry!"

"Looks like you need to be punished!" The middle aged man said and took some kind of rope from his belt. He swung it at the boy who was crying on the floor repeatedly without stopping.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" The boy cried harder and eventually fainted.

Kao open his eyes slightly. His head felt heavy so he closed his eyes again for few seconds. When he felt better even just a bit, he tried to opened his eyelids again and all he could do was halfway.

He closed his eyes again, but this time he could take a peek at his surrounding. It wasn't his room, and also not Fong's room. It was white, and he could smell some alcohol in the room. Before he tried to open his eyes for the third eyes, he decided to stop as he heard familiar voice not far from him.

"You're awake?" Fong asked. He wasn't sure that Kao already awake, but he need to let the doctor know if he was.

"Ummm..."

"Good. I'll let the doctor know first." Fong went to the door and peek his head outside. As he saw nurse was walking by, he told her about Kao's condition followed by the nurse smiling and nodding. "Please tell doctor Jae."

When he was done, Fong walked back to the place he was sitting before and put his body back, leaning against the sofa.

"Hospital?" Kao said a word as his mouth felt really dry and he's not in condition to speak normally. His body didn't felt hurt at all, so he knew that it was only his mind that weighing him down.

"Yeah. Suddenly you fainted at dinner yesterday." Fong took out his phone and dialed a number. After the other line answered, Fong speak briefly before saying goodbye and turned off his phone. "Don't worry, I already told the lecturer and also P'Sin. I told them something happened and you need to take a rest for one day."

"Thanks... You?"

Fong understood what Kao tried to say. He started to leaning on the side and put his head on the pillow as he laughed a bit. "I should thank you because I could get a day off!"

"Bastard..." Kao cursed at his friend but his mouth formed a smile. He knew that whenever he was sick, Fong will take care of him because he also could run away from class or work. It's not like Kao never did it, but Fong taking advantage of it too much.

"You too."

After a moment of silence, a doctor walked in with nurse beside him. Fong stood up and greet him while the nurse just excuse herself and doing her job to check on Kao. The doctor talked a bit with Fong which Kao couldn't listen as they speak in low volumes. After they finished, the doctor walked to Kao's bed and Fong went back to his seat.

The doctor did a quick checkup on Kao, from his eyes, mouth, chest, and then just patted him on the shoulder. He looked at Kao and sometimes at Fong. "It's okay. You were just exhausted. Take a rest and medicine for three days and you will be okay."

"Can he get back to work tomorrow doc?" Fong asked before Kao's voice could come out from his half opened mouth.

"He can. But I suggest to take it easy for few days. Don't do heavy work until you finished your medicine." The doctor said to Kao. No more questions could be heard and the nurse already finished her work, so both of them excuse themselves. "You can go home later when you're feeling better. Excuse me for now."

Kao could only muttered thanks while Fong escort them out before walking back to his comfortable seat.

Silence filled the room as Kao tried to regain energy. Fong just played at his phone, waiting for his friend to be able to get off from his bed. After feeling half of his energy come back, Kao pushed himself to sit up, leaning his back on the headboard. Fong just glanced at him and turn back to his phone.
