Alec left his mother's house in anger. He was so annoyed at Magnus. He understood why he chose Max but it still upset him and made him frustrated that Magnus wouldn't even consider his point. He kept asking himself if he was in the wrong if he was being out of line but he was too frustrated to even care about it. In his mind, he was right and Magnus was wrong.

He took a cab and pulled up outside Jace's before he knocked on their door. He waited for a bit before hearing Jace's voice come through the tannoy.

"Hey, who is it?"

"It's me. Can I come up?" Alec asked.

"Of course bro," Jace said and buzzed Alec upstairs.

Alec headed up and smiled at his brother who was waiting at the door for him and hugged him immediately before breaking down into sobs. The action took Jace by surprise. He hadn't expected it and he was really worried since his brother hardly ever cried.

"What wrong?" Jace asked, concerned.

"We broke up" Alec sobbed out into his brother's shoulder and went with Jace as they walked back inside so Jace could shut the door.

"What? Why? What happened?" Jace asked, shocked.

"He's got a baby," Alec said and pulled away as he wiped his eyes.

"He cheated on you!" Jace glared. Furious as he put two and two together but came up with five.

"No. No, he didn't cheat" Alex sighed and slumped down on the couch. "Where's Clary?"

"She's at some art opening or something So what happened?"

"This woman turned up with a baby in her arms. Magnus slept with a girl about a year ago and she got pregnant. She can't keep the baby so social services took the baby, tracked down Magnus and now he has the kid" Alec sighed.

"and they just take this woman's word for it that Magnus is the dad?" Jace frowned.

"Well, she swears it's his. Magnus remembers her. The woman has taken his DNA to be completely sure but I don't think Magnus is giving that kid up even if it's not his" Alec shrugged.

"That still doesn't explain why you two broke up?" Jace added.

"I told him I don't want kids. You know I don't want kids, I didn't realise he wanted kids because apart from one time during a panic attack, he has never mentioned it to me" Alec sighed. "So I said that I didn't want kids. That I didn't want to have a family with Magnus. I just want him"

"So you did what?" Jace said and closed his eyes as if he knew what was coming.

"I didn't make him choose if that's what you're thinking. Well... not really" Alec said and rubbed his face. "I just said that Magnus was already putting this baby ahead of me or us and that he only found out twenty minutes ago that he was a dad and he is already making it seem like he has chosen the baby over me. So Magnus outright said that he chose the baby over us. I didn't make him choose. He made a decision himself"

"Oh, Alec" Jace sighed. "Where is Magnus now?"

"At Moms. I told him to stay there until he can sort him and the baby out a place to live. Am I okay to stay here?" He asked.

"Of course. Is Mom okay with that? With Magnus living there?'

"We will find out when she comes home" Alec shrugged. "Listen, I'm going for a laydown. Is that alright?"

"Yeah, do you want anything?" Jace asked.

"No, I'm okay" Alec smiled sadly. "Thanks"

"Welcome. I need to pop out, get something for dinner. It's my turn to cook. Are you going to be okay?" Jace said to him, worried for his brother.

"Yes. I'll be fine" Alec said and then went off to the bedroom.

He laid there for a while before he heard Jace go out. His mind was unravelling. His heart hurt and he could feel himself slip into darkness in his head. All he thought about as he laid there was how much he missed Magnus but the baby kept popping up into his head and Magnus's words going around in his head. 'I chose my son. I chose the baby. I chose him over you.' He couldn't stop it. The words seemed to change in his mind every time they repeated and grew worse. 'I don't want you anymore. I want my son only' before the words became even darker. 'I hate you. I never wanted you. I just wanted someone and now I have my son, I don't want you.'

Alec couldn't stop it and needed to get out. He left the apartment and walked the streets. The sun was setting and his phone rang. He saw it was Jace and ended the call with a sigh before he texted him instead.

Alec sighed as he turned his phone off and sat on the grass. His head in his hands as he started to overthink again. Words went around and around in his mind as he tried to ignore them but after an hour, there was only one way his mind could turn. Only one way to stop it all. The only thing he never thought he would do again.

Jace: Okay. Are you sure?

Alec: Yes. I'll be back later. Can you put the key somewhere?

Jace: Yes, I'll put it under the mat. Be safe.

Alec: Thanks

Alec sighed as he turned his phone off and sat on the grass. His head in his hands as he started to overthink again. Words went around and around in his mind as he tried to ignore them but after an hour, there was only one way his mind could turn. Only one way to stop it all. The only thing he never thought he would do again.

He stood up and headed off to the one place he knew about. The place he knew he could get what he needed and when he stood in front of the dark alleyway, his heart told him to turn back but his head was dark. Too dark. So dark that he couldn't hear anything logically as he started to walk in and up to a man with a hood up that covered his face.

"What do you need?" The man's voice said.

"Coke," Alec said.

"How much?"

"two grams"

"two hundred"

Alec nodded and took out his wallet and passed the bloke two hundred dollars. He took the bag of white powder and shoved it in his pocket before he took off. His head down as he walked the streets and into a liquor store where he bought a bottle of vodka and then headed to a place that he knew he would be able to be left alone. An old warehouse that sat on the East River. He headed up to the roof and looked out at the view before he snorted some of the coke before he rubbed it onto his gums and sat down. He opened the vodka and drank. Tears fell from his eyes as he slipped into a drunk and drugged upstate. His mind on Magnus and the disappointment he felt in himself but unable to stop himself as he drank more.
