He stopped an looked into my eyes. His long-lasting glare burned into my soul.
"Who's this?" He said turning towards me.
"Uh... well... she's... uh..."
Beth turned and said,
"She's a girl, a girl who needed help. So we helped her. We saved her."My dad shook his head and went back upstairs with Beth. The girl leaned forward in the chair, applying the pressure to her elbows, and put her hands on her face.
"So... does he approve?" She said with a smirk on her face.
"Not sure. He's on one of his rage streaks. Lots of mood swings."
"What's your name?" She said tilting her head.
"I asked you first."
"And I asked you second... Are you gonna tell me?"
"After you tell me."
"Evelyn... my name is Evelyn. Happy?"
"Very. Well, Evelyn, my names Carl."
"Carl huh? You strike me as a Jonathan, Chris kinda guy..."
"Uh, thanks?" I said confused. We sat for an hour in the dark until my dad stepped in, shining a stride of light across my face. He looked at Evelyn, then at me.
"Do you and your hostage want to come eat?" He said.
"Sure..." I replied. My dad took her wrists and tied them up once again. We trudged up the stairs and into the kitchen where Daryl had made rabbit stew. I untied her wrists and whispered,
"If you try anything, and I mean anything to hurt me or my group, you're gone... for good."
Se nodded and took a seat. Carol went around with bowls in her hand as Daryl came behind pouring soup in each one.Evelyn's POV
They had taken me hostage. I didn't need their help. Sure the boy was attractive, but I didn't need anyone slowing me down. I was fine out there, all alone. Some people are just too kind, that's what will end them. That's what happened to my group. Too generous, like these people.
We sat together at a round table, nine or ten of us. Twelve if you count the baby in the highchair. A baby? Why would you bring a baby into a world like this?
Carl... he was about my age. Long, shaggy brown hair covered with a sheriffs hat. He had deep, dark blue eyes, like the depths of the ocean. They were stunning. Carl was a little bit taller than me, the perfect height. I was five foot two. I'd say he was about five four. When I first saw him, I looked away. I didn't want to care about anyone else because when you care about them they disappear faster.
