CHAPTER 36
Today marks our first week here in La Union. We spent most of our days inside the resort. Madalas ay sa beach ako tumatambay. Felix was hesitant at first.
I started loving sunsets by the beach. Sometimes I just stare at it from the shore. It's very peaceful. I think those were some of the reasons why Felix chose this place.
Felix does his best para samahan ako kapang nagliliwaliw ako sa buong resort but because his work never stops, bibihira lang niya ako masamahan kaya naman iyong dalawang miyembro ng security team niya ang madalas kasama ko. I think I got used to it kaya naman hindi na ako nagrereklamo pa. Besides hindi naman sila literal na nakadikit sa akin, they are a few feet away from me at hindi naman nila ako binubulabog.
"Do you want to go out later?" tanong ni Felix habang tinitignan namin ang menu sa isang restaurant dito sa resort. We're actually sitting on a 6 chair table. We usually use the 2 chair table dahil ang security team naman niya ay either nauuna o nahuhuling kumain. Are we expecting some people?
"You mean sa beach? I always go there..." may takang tanong ko.
"I mean outside the resort, we can try to check out some places if you want," sagot niya habang iniisa isa ang pahina ng menu.
I bit my lip trying to hide my excitement.
"Do you think it's already safe?" I asked worriedly.
He stopped reading the menu and looked straight at me. I mean we weren't even dressed formal. He's just wearing his usual white button down shirt paired with a denim short and a fancy slides. While I'm wearing a casual pastel yellow sundress paired with thong sandals.
"Don't worry about it. Everything should be fine after tonight."
It took me a few seconds before I started putting things together. "Who are we having dinner yet?"
"The governor, his wife, and the mayor." Simpleng sagot nito.
"Wait, what? Why?"
"We're going to close a deal with them, Maura."
"And we didn't even at least tried to look more formal?" I argued.
"We will be fine. I have met them once, they are very down to earth. I am sure na casual rin ang suot nila." paninigurado nito sa akin bago sumenyas sa waiter.
"I think we should get started with soup first. We'll have whatever the soup of the day is," aniya sa waiter. "What about wine?" baling na tanong nito sa akin.
"Are we going to eat meat or steak... uhm, actually, I'm in a mood for either Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Grabe! I can't think straight!" medyo gulong gulo kong sagot kay Felix.
Felix laughed lightly. "We'll get the best of the two please," ani Felix sa waiter na nagaabang. "We'll order later kapag dumating na ang mga hinihintay namin."
The waiter wrote down our orders and took off.
It didn't take long for the guests to arrive. The three were escorted with their own body guards of course. Felix was right, they're all dressed so casual!
"LeFevre!" masiglang bati ng nakatatandang lalaki. I bet he's the governor.
"Governor Lopez," magalang naman na sagot ni Felix. "Madame Lucila," baling niya sa asawa ng gobernador. "Mayor Lopez," ani nito sa Mayor.
Both Lopez? Tanong ko sa sarili ko.
"And this must me Maura Saavedra?" baling ng gobernador sa akin.
I greeted them all politely.
"I hope you don't mind kung nag-order na ako ng soup, and wines of course," ani Felix. "I opted to wait for you before ordering the main course. I'm kind of craving for seafoods but I was afraid you guys are not kaya naman minabuti kong maghintay," Felix said as he was offering me the soup.
"Ah! Ever so thoughtful, Felix," ani ng asawa ng gobernador. "I am actually craving for seafoods, as well! If I may suggest, bakit hindi na lang tayo kumukha ng Seafood Meddley para sa ating lahat? That's if it's okay with Maura?"
"Oh, I'm actually looking forward to eating seafoods tonight! Parehas lang pala tayo ng naisip na kainin," I laughed with her.
We started our dinner with some small talks. I always blend with these kind of people easily because of the world I grew in.
Throughout the dinner, I have learned na iisang pamilya pala ang gobernador at ang mayor, kaya pala parehas sila ng apelyido. Felix smoothly opened the real purpose of tonight's dinner. I listened attentively.
"We actually have a family friend that's considering selling her lot. It's a beachfront in San Juan, lagpas lang kaunti dito," ani Mayor Nick. "It will be a good investment lalo na ngayong booming na ang naturang lugar. Madaming turista ang dumadayo."
"I actually agree, I have witnessed how that town grow. It literally started from scratch. It took years for it to develop and now I can say that I am impressed with how much it grew," dagdag ng gobernador.
Felix nodded and took a sip from his glass. "How big is the lot?"
"Big enough to build a resort, hindi nga lang kasing laki ng resort na ito, but competitive naman," sagot ni Mayor Nick.
"I'm interested," simpleng sabi ni Felix.
Ngumisi ang mayor sa sagot ni Felix. "I will have my secretary send over the details."
"Well then, I assume you will want an enhanced security din pagkatapos maipatayo ng resort?" ani Governor Tony.
Tumango si Felix. "Yes. And as what we have been discussing the past few days, I'd like to think na simula ngayon ay makakaasa na kami ng mahigpit na seguridad?"
"It started even before we got here, Felix. I work fast," ngising sagot ng gobernador.
"Good. I only want to keep Maura safe," ani Felix.
My cheeks flushed.
"How do you think I managed to keep my wife, more-so my family safe?" kampanteng tanong ng gobernador.
We all laughed lightly. And I am so excited for tomorrow!
