Do you ever feel numb? Like you don't know what else to feel? Like there is nothing keeping you living on this earth? All your family is gone, and you have nowhere to go?
That's exactly how I feel as I step off the train station platform in Mystic Falls. Mystic Falls is my home, it always has been, until this year when my dad decided to send me to boarding school. I had to leave school to return for my brother's and my father's funerals. Apparently, a lot has happened to my family since I left. Just before I went to school, my family started boarding a lady named Katherine Pierce. She was a beautiful girl who had lost her family in Atlanta. Turns out she's also dead.
"Ms. Salvatore?"
I turn to see Sheriff William Forbes.
"Would you follow me, and I will take you to the Gilberts," he says.
"That won't be necessary," a man with sandy blond hair and blue eyes walks up behind him.
"And you are?" the sheriff asks.
"Klaus Mikalson," he says, holding out his hand. "I am here to take Ms. Salvatore, and you will forget ever needing to take her to the Gilberts."
"You are here to take Ms. Salvatore, and I will forget ever needing to take her to the Gilberts," the sheriff repeats in a monotone voice and walks away.
"What did you just do?" I finally speak up. He looks down at me in pity.
"Follow me and answer all my questions truthfully," he says into my eyes. I start following him away from the station.
"What do you know of Katherine Pierce?" he asks as we walk to his carriage.
"She was boarding with my family, an orphan from Atlanta. I met her once, and she had brown hair and brown eyes. Both my brothers fell in love with her, and she died on the same night as my brothers." Wait. Why did I just say that?
"What's your name, love?" he asks as we step into his carriage. "I'm Astrid Salvatore, and I'm 8 years old." Why am I even talking to him?
"Well, Astrid, I think we're going to get along just fine," he smiles as we roll away in the carriage.
