After seven years, I'd decided Sirius Black was an insufferable git. Despite being one of my very best friends in the entire world, not a day went by that I didn't want to throat punch him.

Today was no different. Except today, my best friend was reeling from a particularly rough breakup. Even though Sirius put up the front that he didn't care and he didn't have feelings, he was one of the most emotional people I knew. And I knew how much he cared for the girl he'd been dating.

When James sent me an owl telling me what was going on, I went straight over to James' house. When I arrived, I found Remus waiting at the kitchen table for me. He gave a grim smile and said, "He's upstairs. James is with him too." I nodded and headed that way, saying goodbye to the other boy as he left.

The closer I got to Sirius' room, the louder his crying was. As annoying as he was sometimes, he was one of my very best friends - almost like a brother. I never wanted him to experience this kind of pain. Especially after last year's trauma and the threat of imminent doom lingering in the air.

I gave two soft knocks on the door before I opened it quietly. "Sirius?" I questioned, my voice barely above a whisper. The boy coughed out a sob and called my name. My shoulders slumped sadly and I closed the door behind me, going and sitting on the bed opposite James.

Sirius was trying to stifle his sobs as he turned to greet me with a weak smile that quickly faltered. I smiled back sadly, reaching down to take his hand. "It's okay," I told him, reaching over with my other hand to rub his shoulder comfortingly. "I won't ask what happened. Just let it all out." At my words, he burst out sobbing again, bringing our hands up to his forehead.

I looked over at James, who was staring at his friend with concern on his face. It didn't take long before he met my eyes and didn't look away for a long time. I finally rolled my eyes and looked back to Sirius.

Ever since James and Lily had split, he'd refused to talk to me. I knew why, too and it never ceased to anger and hurt me. She'd been jealous of my relationship with the boys and eventually, James had had enough and called it quits. Only now he wouldn't even speak, and until just now, wouldn't even look at me.

I shook the infuriating thoughts out of my mind and focused on Sirius again. He'd stopped crying as hard, but his grip on my hand was still tight. He met my eyes and let out a shuddering breath. "Can we talk?" He asked, his eyes pleading with me to say yes. "Of course," I replied without hesitation, motioning for him to scoot over so I could sit on the bed fully.

He slid over and into a sitting position, allowing me to sit on the edge of the bed. I spared a glance at James and saw a scowl beginning to form on his face. I rolled my eyes and gave my full attention to Sirius.

"James, mate... d'you mind?" Sirius asked softly, flinching at something he seen on James' face. I looked over at the other boy and seen the hurt flashing across his face. "Y-yeah, sure," he replied, swallowing thickly. "Let me know if you need anything." Sirius nodded. "You know I will." James gave us one last glance over his shoulder and left the room silently.

Sirius sat up on the bed and motioned for me to move further onto the bed. I moved so I was sitting cross-legged and removed my hand from Sirius'. "What's up?" I asked, looking up at him questioningly.

Sirius sighed heavily. "Is there something wrong with me?" I frowned. "No, why?" He shook his head and his voice wobbled when he replied, "Because that's what she told me." My eyes widened and I felt my blood pressure rising. "Are you serious?" He looked torn between making his usual joke and answering me. He finally settled for nodding his head sullenly.

I shook my head in disbelief. "She also told me that she was dumping me because I wasn't marriage material. And she was ashamed to be with me." This time, my jaw dropped.
