Chapter 2: What it means to have people that care for you.

Koda's POV:

Nine months have passed, and I've been living at Velvets house. I've been helping her, Laphicet and Arthur with some tasks. It feels like they have come to accept me as one of their own. Velvet and I would sometimes go out together and get Laphicet's medicine for his sickness. Sometimes I would hang with Laphicet talking about stuff. He even made fun of how me and Velvet got along so well together. Of course, I tried to shrug it off but maybe he was right. They are all great people. Little that I knew was that these peaceful days would change.

One day Laphicet and I were actually thinking of buying Velvet a new comb for her sense her old one broke.

Koda: You wanna buy her a new comb?

Laphicet: Yeah, we can sell this copy of Arthur's book I made in order to get the money to buy a comb. And besides you think her hair is beautiful too, don't you?

Koda: ugh...yeah(blushes). But yeah, when you finish it, I'll bring it to the market to sell it and get the comb. How about that?

Laphicet: Yeah!

Velvet comes walking in just as were done.

Velvet: Laphi, Koda, what are two talking about?

Koda: Nothing really just guy talk. You ready to go hunt some Prickleboars?

Velvet: Yep just about. I just came to check on you and Laphi.

Koda: Ok I'll go wait outside, he's your brother after all.

Then Velvet grabs my hand before I walk out.

Velvet: It's okay you're our Friend and like family.

When Velvet said that It kind of hit me again.

Koda: It's alright, I'll wait outside.

Velvets POV:

Velvet: Koda seemed alittle concerned, it's not like he was bothering us or anything. after all we live in the same house.

Laphicet: Maybe because he doesn't have a family, remember Velvet? And he does everything to help out as best he can despite not being a family member. Koda really is trying his hardest to fit in.

Velvet: ... Yeah...maybe. Anyway, we will be back, see you soon Laphi.

Koda's POV:

I grabbed my sword and was ready. Velvet came out and we were ready to go. Along the way we stopped by to talk to the towns people. Then one of them mentioned the opening.

Male Villager: *sighs*... Eversince the Opening, seven years ago, this world really has gone crazy. Famine, freezing weather... and worst of all, this demonblight that's turning people into those monsters.

Female Villager: I can't believe that people really turn into those... things. It's a nightmare...

Koda: ...Velvet, Does no one know what causes demonblight?

Velvet: No. No one does. Arthur doesn't even know himself.

Male Villager: But what we do know is that when people turn into those monsters, I mean "demons", they become incredibly strong and formidable. They attack people on sight.

Koda: ...Geez...

Female Villager: Whoever named it the Opening named it right. It's like someone a portal directly to hell.

Male Villager: That's right Velvet your sister Celica passed away seven years ago. Maybe It's good she died when she did.

Velvet: ...
