"Oy you idiot! Get up!" Ahh, Sirius thought, the wonderful sound of being woken up on the first day of school by an annoying guy with the voice of a donkey. "What?" Sirius drawled, annoyed and groggy with sleep. "It's the first of September, and it's breakfast!" With the last word he took a leap, and jumped onto Sirius' bed, making sure to wake him up for good before he went downstairs.

Sirius mumbled what sounded something along the lines of 'bastard', although it was hard to tell as his words were muffled by pillows and a loud groan as a result of being jumped on.

Two minutes later they were both running down the stairs, still in pyjamas and one chasing the other. "Don't you dare tell her!" James yelled from behind while Sirius just giggled as he ran for his life.

"Now now boys, no need to run around the house, whatever it is you are not to tell this mystery person I am sure you can discuss the consequences of telling them after breakfast." The warm voice of the one and only Euphemia Potter sounded from above the stove as the two boys entered the kitchen.

The smile she had on her face was so warm, the knowledge of it being a genuine one was enough to make Sirius want to laugh and cry until he broke down. Of course he didn't do any of that, but instead sat down to have a load of newly made waffles filled with love and joy and lots of sugar. Life at the Potter's never failed to impress no matter how long he spent there. Especially when compared to what he came from.

Remus sighed, looking into the mirror. The summer had been hard for several reasons. The difference of going from running around the worn down and tattered shack with his friends as animals, giving him company and safeness in his weakest moment - to being alone. Freaking out, no control of what's happening, scratching and tearing at the only place he can actually get some real flesh from, leaving Remus to deal with the pain and consequence of it later.

And as if that wasn't enough, he of course had no support at home what so ever. Well, they did try, for the sake of their son. However between his mother's fear, his father's hatred and their mutual dislike of confrontation on a personal level, they usually distanced themselves as much as deemed acceptable for a parent. Not a good parent, a good parent wouldn't distance themselves from their child, no matter the cause.

He went to his trunk, going over his things to make sure he had everything before closing it and taking it out of his room. Once he'd made his way downstairs and walked into the small kitchen, he found a note from his parents lying on the counter. 'Gone to work Remus, have a great school year! Ps: the Potters will pick you up at 10:30 - Mum and dad' He knew they didn't have work. He'd grown mostly used to the distance from his parents over the years, but this was the first time ever that they hadn't taken him to the platform to say goodbye before he went off to school.

Don't be stupid, Remus scolded himself, you're a pain to drag around and you're only holding them back from a safe, happy life and you think what they do for you already isn't enough? There was even ready made breakfast for the table for fuck's sake, what did he have to complain about?

At least his parents tried, there were loads of people probably right in front of his nose who had it way worse than him. Take Sirius for example, his best mate, his parents were just downright evil. At least that's what Sirius said. He never talked much about his family, rarely saying more than a mere comment about what they'd think of this and that. Although from that information, together with them all having been Slytherins since the beginning of time, the howlers Sirius has gotten on more than one occasion - though especially the one he got just for being in Gryffindor house in his first year - and just the general knowledge he has about wealthy pureblood families of the sacred 28 from different places, he's personally say it was in total enough information to deem Sirius' parents evil.
