I held Monse's hand as she went into labor. She was a sweaty-crying mess. Monse held my hand even tighter, making me whimper in pain. I let it happen though. "Look Mon, you're going to be a amazing mom." I said to her. She nodded along with me as she cried. I kissed her forehead.
"You don't need any man or child in this matter, to help you with your baby." I said. I squeezed her hand. "Just know that I will always have your back, mama." I smiled. She pushed hard one more time. There was a little cry and she threw her head back.
My eyes were watering by this point. They handed her the baby. "Monnie she looks just like you." I said. She didn't say a word as she stared at the baby. Monse just cried. "I'm not going to be a good mother." She mumbled. Nessa shooked her head, "That's because you're going to be a amazing one."
"You'll always have us." I smiled. Nessa looked at me and nodded. We let Monse have her time with her baby and left out of the room. "Man, Cesar's an ass for this." Nessa folded her arms. I nodded, "If he is not here in ten minutes, I'll go to him myself and beat his ass." I mumbled.
Kehlani and my dad ran in. He frowned as soon as he saw me. "Is Cesar here?" He asked. I shooked my head. Dad scoffed and shooked his head. "That's shameful of him. First he impregnated my 14 year old daughter. Now he isn't even here." He said.
"Let's not forget he literally abandoned her for three months of her pregnancy." Nessa rolled her eyes. I shrugged, "He went to juvi for a while guys." Dad rolled his eyes. "Of course you'd take up for him." I raised my eyebrow at him. "Why are you always on my fucking back, Dad?" He was about to say something until Jamal and Ruby ran into the hospital waiting room.
Jamal literally had every balloon color and of course Ruby had bags of gifts. I laughed when they came over. "What? I'm prepared for this very memorable moment." Ruby rolled his eyes. Jamal nodded, "This is our squad baby. We need to spoil he or she."
"It's a girl." Nessa said. "Yes!" Jamal said as he jumped up in the air. We all walked into Monse's room. She looked at all of us and smiled. Her face was red and so was her eyes. "Hey guys." She said softly. The baby was asleep in her arms. "Did you pick out a name yet? I was think Jamala." Jamal shrugged. "No, what about Ruby?" Ruby smiled at her. She rolled her eyes.
Monse looked down at her. "I already came up with a name." She smiled.
We waited for her to say it.
"Her name is Maliyah Rose." Monse said. Everyone cooed and awed at the name. "I chose Rose because that's Cesar's mom."
She looked up at us and frowned. "Where is he anyway?" Monse asked. I looked at Nessa and she sighed. "He isn't here yet." Monse mumbled. She looked back at the small baby in her arms. "What's Maliyah's last name?" Jamal blurted out. We all just glared at him. Monse looked at him.
"Her last name is Finnie, Maliyah Finnie."
