Zoella POV

"Chloe, where were you yesterday morning?" I asked, setting the food down on the table. She twisted her hair into a bun and shot me a look.

"What do you mean where was I? I was right here all day, glued to the news," she replied, clearly not telling the truth. Just the day before, I had told Izzy that my sister had all the answers, yet here she was, spinning a tale. Chloe rolled her eyes at me. "You really don't believe me?" she said, standing up and heading into the other room, and I followed closely behind.

"Chloe, who were you with yesterday?" I pressed, concern creeping into my voice. "You need to understand that Alex is dangerous."

"Who's Alex?" she shot back, feigning ignorance.

"You really don't know who Alex is?" I asked, surprised.

"No, and I swear I was in this house all day," she insisted, tears beginning to spill down her cheeks. She was putting on quite the performance.

"I must have mistaken someone else for you then; let's just eat," I suggested, trying to diffuse the tension.

"You know I would never lie to you, Zo, I promise I was here," she said, but as she turned, I caught sight of a black leather jacket peeking out from the laundry basket. Chloe had never owned a black leather jacket; she was all about pink. I stood there for a moment, staring at it.

"What's going on? Is everything alright?" I asked, sensing something was off.

"Yeah, everything's fine, let's just eat," she replied, forcing a smile as I gently nudged her toward the living room. My apartment wasn't huge, but it seemed like Chloe was starting to feel at home, and that made me feel good.

I had never cooked for my sister before, so when she finally got a taste of my food, her surprise was pretty evident. My thoughts were a bit scattered, though, especially thinking about that jacket I wore once when Alex and I were still together; he took all his stuff, including his clothes, the moment we split. I glanced at my sister for a moment, realizing she would go to any lengths for love—even if it meant doing something drastic to protect her partner. I let out a sigh as I continued to eat in the quiet atmosphere, and once we finished, she broke the silence with a question. "How many weeks are left?" she asked.

"For what?" I replied, a bit confused.

"Your job at the Gutierrez's."

"Oh, that. Just one week left." I felt a pang of sadness at the thought of leaving the mansion; I had made some great friends there, including Mrs. Gutierrez, who was genuinely kind, though I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about her—she always seemed to be on medication.

Chloe smiled at me and said, "Thanks for everything."

I chuckled, "I'm your sister; I'd do anything to help you out." I gave her a playful touch on the cheek.

"Now, get to work... it's almost two," she said, shooing me away as she took the plates to the kitchen.

Zavion POV

As I watched her head into the living room, I realized I was home alone. Mom was at the hospital, Ian had gone for a drive, Izzy was still at school, and Ethan was off at work. I couldn't help but think that she probably didn't want to hear my voice right now. I crossed my legs and settled into my spot, and as she walked past me, she paused and turned to look at me, her expression unreadable.

"Why is it so quiet in here?" she asked, dropping her bag with a thud. She looked different today; after mom gave her a day off yesterday, she decided to crash at her place. Mom had already taken a liking to her, always saying how sweet, kind, and beautiful Zoe was. I couldn't help but smile, and she shot me a questioning look, raising an eyebrow. "What's so funny?"
