I used to love Thanksgiving. Mom would spend all day cooking the most amazing dinner with Aunt Silva and Grandma. Dad and Grandpa would wait for the food while they smoked and drank in the Winter Study. It was the biggest our family ever got before Duncan came along. The food was so good I'd eat until I could hardly move.

It's not like that anymore. I don't remember the last time dad cooked anything. He barely looks at me or Duncan anymore. Before Grandma and Grandpa passed we spent Thanksgiving with them now we usually went to Aunt Silva's and she would take us out to eat. This year Erin's parents invited me and Duncan to spend Thanksgiving at their house. I doubt dad even noticed.

After dinner, Jeff and Kim came over and they brought a few kids we met at school, Ellie, Mark and Lucas. Lucas was on the fencing team, and I ran track with Mark. Ellie is in Kim and Erin's homeroom class. Duncan doesn't have a lot of friends his age and they didn't mind him hanging out with us so we've been spending a lot of time together. This Thanksgiving was the best I've had since mom died.
