It felt as if Clarisse had been hugging me for the past five minutes. I was beginning to come quite uncomfortable, but I bit my tongue naturally letting herself unravel from me.
"Wow! You grew a little," Clarisse said examining my growing body. I cringed feeling as if I was being inspected for any signs of puberty. Clarisse looked the same since last school year, except she had a few patches of acne and her hair grew a few inches longer. I felt my body beginning to change, but nothing out of the ordinary had begun to happen.
"Thank you?" I said although it came out as more of a question. I couldn't tell whether or not it was a good thing or not that my body was changing. My brothers never seemed to talk about it when their bodies began changing, but they loved it when the lady's bodies changed. Clive loved it, to be specific.
"Oh, which store shall we go to first?" Clarisse asked as she pulled me through, Diagon Alley. The shops were vibrant, hopping with customers seeing as it was the day before the school year began.
I shrugged knowing Clarisse was going to pull me along with her no matter where we went. We shopped for ten minutes, buying quills and parchment for the upcoming school year. It was boring, I was eager to go to the library and research the dream I was constantly having.
"Oh look it's Dumbledore!" Clarisse exclaimed, waving at Dumbledore from afar. My eyes didn't fall on Dumbledore, to begin with. Instead, they fell onto Riddle who looked like he had aged quite well. He was growing into his chubby cheeks, and he was beginning to grow. He looked older than Spencer. And, as usual, the aura around him was so intoxicating I had trouble looking away.
"Hello Clarisse and Myra," Dumbledore said nodding at us. I pulled my eyes away from Riddle and to Dumbledore who was peering down at us, with a twinkle of hope in his eyes.
"Hello Professor, Diagon Alley is wonderful isn't it?" Clarisse asked looking around the alley in amazement. She was so energetic, I could never understand it.
"Yes it is, would you mind taking Mr. Riddle with you, I must speak to someone," Dumbeldore said gesturing towards Riddle. Once again, I looked down at Riddle, and I felt as if I couldn't breathe under his cold gaze. "In the alley."
I scrunch my eyebrows watching as the interesting man walked away towards the alleyway as if it were normal. He hadn't even waited for our answer, but we all knew Clarisse could not say no. Clarisse had gone quiet for the first time as Riddle joined us.
"Can we go to Flourish and Botts?" I asked although I was not expecting to take no for an answer. I wanted, well needed, to find the book that would enlighten me about my nightmares.
"Sure!" Clarisse chirped skipping forwards towards the store. I trailed behind her whereas Riddle trailed behind me curiously eyeing the shops.
When we entered the shop Clarisse instantly began to examine the books on display, like 'HOW TO TEND FOR UNICORNS' or 'POTIONS I'. I, on the other hand, had a different type of book I wished to learn from.
I looked between Riddle, who looked completely uninterested, and Clarisse, who was neck deep in a book on elves.
"Alright, I'm going to go to the restricted part of the store," I started looking up the stairs where a small section of books were blocked off for Aurors only. Those were the books that had almost everything to do with the Dark Arts, and I was curious to see what was there to offer.
"Are you mad?" Clarisse whispered as if someone could hear us. I rolled my eyes at her comment. Oh, Clarisse.
"Just stay here, I'll be right back," I said, although she did not look reassured. She was pale in the face, terrified of what I was up to.
I drug my eyes to Riddle, my lips slightly parting when I saw him still surprised how well puberty was treating him. "Would you like to come or stay?"
His eyes flickered from me to the upstairs part of the store and then to Clarisse. I watched a subtle smirk form on his face, a smirk that sent goosebumps down my body.
"Lead the way," He said, a mischievous smirk on his face. Clarisse scoffed watching as we snuck up the stairs away from her. His voice had gotten much deeper, it took me slightly by surprise.
"Come on," I said, grabbing a hold of his hand without thinking anything of it. I pulled him behind me as I skillfully weaved my way through the bookcases and towards the restricted section. I had been in this store almost every year helping my brothers shop for the school year.
The more I held onto his hand the more aware I became of him. I became aware of his cold skin touching mine, my fingers lightly placed on the top of his hand, and most importantly the fact that he also wrapped his fingers around mine. The more aware I became, the more discomfort I felt.
I pulled away subtly trying not to make a deal of it as we arrived in the restricted section. There were shelves and more shelves on the Dark Arts. This was the curriculum Rosalie and Brock would be studying, to defeat dark wizards.
"This is forbidden is it not?" Riddle asked as I carefully browsed the titles looking for something specific. He seemed to be interested in the titles as well seeing as he carefully stroked the spine of some of the books.
"Of course," I answered him, not looking at him but instead continuing to search for the book. My heart leaped as I found the book I had been hoping for. SYMBOLS WITHIN THE DARK ARTS AND THEIR MEANINGS.
