Chapter One:

464 8 11

I stare into the the beautiful, purple, starry sky above me.
My best friend, Trey Heslege, lays beside me on the soft grass.
"You ready to go yet, Em?"
He asks.
My real name is Emily, but he always calls me Em.

"Mmm..... in a minute."
I reply dreamily.
I hear him laugh softly and touch my shoulder.
"Come on, Em! Your falling asleep!"
He teases.
My other friend, Alvar, laughs and grabs my hand.
"Yeah we better go, Emmie."
He says, pulling me up.

"Yeah, listen to your big brother."
Trey says with a smirk.
I had to let Alvar come and tell Trey that Alvar was my brother or I would've never been aloud to come here.
My father is very protective.
Especially since my mother left.
She joined the dark side.
Literally.
The Black Swan.

The evil rebellion that made that dumb little Moonlark, and stole my mother.
I seriously don't even know who she is. Or what her name is.
Or what she looks like.
I don't even think want to know her.

I'm a shade.
People can probably tell that by just looking at me though. Cue the: black hair, yellow eyes, tall and skinny vibe.
Trey is a Flasher.
Opposites attract right?
Not that we are attracted to each other or anything.

Lady Gisela towers over me and Alvar, as we shuffle are feet in explaining why we are late.
"Emily was too lazy to get up."
Alvar says with a smirk.
"Was not!" I cry, turning and glaring at him.

Yes, we act like siblings.
We practically are.
I've known him just about my whole life.
He's actually only a few years older than me.

I'm sixteen.
He's nineteen.
Trey is seventeen.

"Well, whatever made you late, it did! I don't think your father will appreciate that Miss Ignis." Gisela says smoothly.
She might act natural, but I don't take it.
She's writhing inside.
I can tell.
I might not be an empath, but I can tell.

•[Two Weeks Later]

"Emily. Your're going to Foxfire."
My eyes widen.
"WHAT! Why!?"
I cry, not at all excited about what my father has just told me.
"We need someone to keep an eye on Miss Foster."
Gethen says with a smirk.
Ugh, Gethen is so stupid.
He glares at me then.
"Get out of my head!" I shout, punching his jaw.

His head whips back, then his fist is flying at me and hits my nose.
Blood starts to drip down my face as I glare at him.
"Stupid." I mutter.
My father and Gisela, watch on with disinterest.
If only Alvar was here. He'd help me.
Unfortunately, Alvar isn't here.
Fintan sent him and Brant to do something.
I don't know what.

Glimmer and Umber are also not here.
Finally, I just stomp out of the room, growling curses back at the telepathic freak.
When I reach my room, I pull off my black, Neverseen cloak and throw on a gray and black sundress.
Then I hail Trey.

To my horror, his dad answers.
"Hello?"
"Uhhh... Hi! Mr Heslege?"
"Yes?"
"This is Emily. Your sons friend."
"Oh, and please call me Elwin."
He says with a kind smirk.
Bile rises in my throat, but I give him a fake smile and say,
"Well, Elwin, is Trey around?"

Elwin grimaces.
"Well, he actually isn't right now. He went with another friend to Atlantis."
It takes all my will power not to scream.
"Oh, really?" I say though a clenched jaw, plastering a totally fake smile on my face.

"Yeah, Sorry about that.....and umm.... you have dried blood all down your face." He says wincing.
I wanna kick myself for being such an idiot and forgetting about that.
"Oh.....uh...yeah... I know.."
I say awkwardly, then.
"Well too bad he's not home! Have good day Elwin! Bye!"
I hurriedly day before hanging up.

As soon as Mr Heslege's face disappears, I sigh and bury my face into a pillow, silently screaming.
Once I finish letting out my anger, I walk to my bathroom and use a wet rag to wipe the now dried blood from my face.

I probably looked like an idiot on that imparter.
I then flop back on my bed.
At least if I go to Foxfire I'll get to see Trey every day.
But I'll also have to see Sophie every day.
Ew.

(AN: I'm sorry that this is so cringey- I gonna start going through and try to fix it a bit tho- Thanx for reading anyway!)
