A bus, that was on fire, was sent flying towards the competitors bus. Immediately, a few of the students, the ones closest to the window, stood up, beginning a magic sequence, while the other students watched the spectacle happen. Mayumi, along with Mari and a few other people on the student council, stood up, almost in unison, and began ordering everyone to stop their spells.
"Stop! Idiots!" Mari had an extremely serious look on her face, so did Mayumi and Juumonji. Thankfully, all the magic that was about to be used was incomplete, and in a still-activating state. If everyone canceled their unfinished spells, then there would be time to take meaningful action.
Unfortunately, if they'd have good judgement to do what Mari had said, then in the first place, Mari wouldn't have had to stop them. In order to negate the magic which the students who hadn't stopped were using, they'd need enough magic power to overwhelm the magic sequences.
"Juumonji!" Without a moment of hesitation, Mari shouted out to him, indirectly telling him to ready his spell, though, Juumonji had a surprised expression on his face, an emotion that never showed itself normally.
But Mari knew what was happening. The chaos of the magic sequences overlapping each other in the area was creating an effect similar to the bus being under the effects under cast jamming. Even Juumonji couldn't take on both the impact and the flames.
"I'll take care of the flames!"
A graceful freshman stood up by one of the windows, preparing a spell with her CAD. Once she had finished preparing the spell, Juumonji constructed a defense magic sequence, fearing what could happen. Even if she may have been a child prodigy, and be talented beyond imagination, would this freshman's magic really cause any effect?
A moment later, Mari widened her jaw. She thought she was hallucinating.
Just before Miyuki had fired her sequence at the clump of metal and fire....
.....all of the magic sequences being constructed before her were all dissipated, leaving only Miyuki in sight.
And then the spell went off, as though she had expected everything that happened to happen.
The spell was brilliant, cooling the flames enough to extinguish them immediately without freezing the car itself nor cutting off the oxygen to the flames, which would have killed the driver, though it was unlikely that the driver would have survived.
Immediately after, Juumonji set up his spell, covering the front side of the bus with a magic wall, protecting it from the flying car that was being hurtled at high speed towards them.
Still, Mari was in a state of trance. What in the world had stopped all of the magic sequences? Was it Mayumi? She thought for a second before shaking her head. She could have certainly dealt with the situation, but if she used anti-magic, she would have needed to fire a psionic bullet and destroyed several of the projected magic sequences. She couldn't have smashed the sequences so finely with her magic.
Mayumi's magic was like a precisely controlled antiaircraft fire. While the spell that was used was more like a carpet bombing, destroying everything in sight, leaving absolutely nothing aside from the ground. That was how violent it had been.
As Mari stood petrified by the confused magic power that Miyuki had just displayed, she wondered to herself.
Does she know who that magic came from?
Maybe, was it him....?
"Is everyone all right?" Mayumi's calm voice broke Mari free of her thoughts, "It was close, but there is no need to worry, Juumonji and Miyuki seem to have averted all of the danger. If you have been injured though, take this time to reflect on just how important seat-belts are and make sure you use them to their full potential next time. Though, hopefully, there won't be a next time." Mayumi ended, winking at the crowd of students, causing some to laugh.
