I fade in and out of things for a while, until I open my eyes to see Evangeline sitting across from me.
"You know, just because you're in pain, doesn't mean you can do stupid shit and get away with it," she laugh-cries, throwing her arms around me.
"Evie, I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have ... and your car... oh gosh your car.."—
"Shhh... it's ok, Sami," she cooes. "I've been saving up for a new car anyhow. This will give me the perfect excuse."
"I swear I didn't mean to make that wide of a turn, and then once I did— I just started spinning out and I-"
"Sami, I don't give a damn about the car," Evie says again. "You just gotta be careful. More careful. Ok?"
"O-okay," I respond shakily. "I'm sorry, Evangeline. I'm sorry for everything. You're the bravest person I know, and it was unfair of me to say you didn't have a lot to deal with... because you deal with a lot everyday, and, and I love you."
"Aw, little sister," Evie says. "I love you too. So, so much." She reaches over to hug me again, and we cling to each other for a few seconds, and I feel... safe.
