5: Locked In

Vincent lays down on his bed while being held hostage. He doesn't close his eyes and he just stares at the empty ceiling. The sound of cars honking outside the container is the only thing that fills in the atmosphere of the dark and dull place. He doesn't move one bit, as if he has given up on escaping. He starts humming a song that he made alongside Zak and Darryl a month ago. He tears up and a tear rolled down from his eyes. He finally moves to remove the tears from his eyes. Suddenly, a knock on the door could be heard. A tall man walks in, and stands in front of Vincent. The door locks behind him and they stare at each other.

"Comment te sens-tu aujourd'hui, Vincent? (How are you today, Vincent?)" the man asks him.

"Je vais bien, si vous me laissiez sortir! (I'm good, if you would let me out!)" Vincent answers in an angry tone.

The man laughs and turns around. "Je pense qu'après avoir été pris en otage pendant environ une semaine maintenant, vous méritez de connaître mon nom. (I think, after being held hostage for about a week now, you deserve to know my name.)" He turns around again and bends down to look at Vincent. "Mon nom est... (My name is...)

"Alex." He creepily smiles at Vincent and backs away. Vincent was slightly scared at this moment. "Vous vous demandez peut-être pourquoi vous êtes ici. (You might be wondering why you're here.)" He walks around the stuffy small room. Vincent's eyes look towards him.

"Il y a un an, vous avez rejoint un concours de création de serveurs, n'est-ce pas? (A year ago, you joined a server making competition, is that correct?)" Vincent starts getting confused and answers Alex, "Oui, mais qu'est-ce que cela a à voir avec toi pour me kidnapper? (Yes, but what does that have to do with you to kidnap me?)"

Alex turns back to Vincent and crosses his arms. "Je n'étais pas vraiment satisfait des résultats de la compétition. (I wasn't really pleased with the results of the competition.)

Vincent starts to get very confused. "Vous avez obtenu la première place et j'ai obtenu la deuxième place- (You got first place, and I got second place-)" he stops talking and laughs. "-n'est-ce pas beau? (isn't that lovely?)" His creepy laugh makes Vincent very scared at this point.

"Vous voyez, vous possédez quelque chose que je désire beaucoup. (You see, you own something that I desire very much.)" he says as he walks around the room again. Vincent just sat on his bed and not moving as he was scared to even move an inch.

"Argent. (Money.)" Vincent was speechless and he realized what was going on. The person who kidnapped him, Alex, is holding him hostage to get his money. Basically, the winning prize for first place during the competition was €10,000/$11,264.50. Vincent won the competition while Alex got second place. Second place won €5,000/$5,632.25. Alex was obviously not satisfied with the results.

Alex turns back again to Vincent and explains. "Quand j'ai entendu que les juges ont annoncé que vous aviez obtenu la première place, j'ai été choqué. Ils faisaient l'éloge de MON serveur mais ils n'ont rien dit sur le vôtre. J'ai immédiatement su que j'allais obtenir la première place, mais NON. Tu as volé mon trône. Tu m'as volé la vedette. Tu m'as pris mon argent! J'étais celui qui était censé être là-haut! Pas un stupide de 19 ans. (When I heard that the judges announce you got first place, I was shocked. They were praising over MY server but they didn't say anything about yours. I immediately knew that I was going to get first place, but NO. You stole my throne. You stole my spotlight. You took away my money! I was the one who was suppose to be up there! Not some stupid 19-year-old.)

Vincent couldn't believe what he heard. He stood up for himself and faced Alex. (First of all, I didn't took away your money. Second, I didn't steal your throne. And third, I didn't steal your spotlight! The judges decisions were final and that is what you get. I am not famous, even after the competition. I am just a YouTuber with 300,000 subscribers. Other people may recognize me by Xem or the owner of OnlyHit, but none of those are huge. Yes, they are very successful but they are not as successful as other people.)

Alex went silent after hearing Vincent's words. Vincent continued his talk. (I have two best friends, both of them are living in America. And I got to know them through the most stupidest things. One of them has 2,000,000 subscribers, almost 3,000,000. He even owns a Minecraft server with hundreds of people joining every time. I also have a best friend who has 500,000 subscribers. He also owns a Minecraft server and he streams every Saturday. Even though we live very far from each other, we still connect with each other.)

None of them spoke for quite sometime, they just stood there, with the cameras still rolling. Alex had a little bit of guilt in him. He can relate to Vincent's story. But his was different. He had two best friends as well, both of which were very famous. As they grew famous, they slowly forgot about him. Alex gave up on their friendships, and went on his own. He gave up on becoming a content creator. As he saw the winning prize for the server making competition, he was eager to win it. With that amount of money, he could start a whole new life. But he took it too far.

Vincent saw his guilty face, but it quickly changed to a face that had no regret. He looked at Vincent and pushed him onto the bed. "Mon équipe va pirater votre compte bancaire et récupérer tout l'argent que vous avez gagné. Bonne chance pour le récupérer. (My team will hack into your bank account and get all the money you won. Good luck on getting it back.)"

He stormed out from the room and locked the door tightly. He even ordered someone to install another lock on the door. Vincent was left speechless and he felt like he wanted to scream, but he knew if he screamed, he would be in big trouble. He laid back onto his bed and this time he closed his eyes. Rain started pouring heavily and the sky turned grey. In his head, the song playing right now is 'Count on Me' by Bruno Mars. As he sang the song in silence, he remembers the good times he had with Zak and Darryl. And as the song progresses on, a tear rolled down his cheek again, but this time, he didn't held it in.

He curled up into a ball and cried while still singing the song. He turned away from the cameras. All he wanted to do now is escape, but with the control he's under right now, it's impossible. As long the music in him is alive, he felt safe and sound.
