Heather was outside, playing basketball, in the intense summer heat. Sweat was streaming down her neck, due to the high humidity. It was  a steamy 97 degrees, with hazy sunshine.

Her mother saw her outside, and told her come back inside. "Heather, get back in the house!" she said. "It's too hot out, today! You'll get a heat stroke!"

"I'm fine, Mom!" protested Heather, dribbling the ball.

"Do what I say!" barked her mother. "Feels like a hundred degrees out here! Inside, now!"

Heather rolled her eyes, and went back inside, as she was told. "What am I supposed to do?" she complained.

"Stay in your room, and turn on the air conditioner!" said her mother. "And, don't you roll your eyes at me! That's disrespectful!"

"Sorry, Mom," sighed Heather. She went upstairs to her room, turned on the air conditioner, and plopped down on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
