By the time that Saturday evening came around, Willow and Ben were both nervous wrecks. The couple hadn't seen each other since they had met to discuss their dinner plans and Willow didn't know if that had made things better or worse.

"Willow, the dinner table is all set so I would suggest that you go and get yourself ready for this evening." Donna placed a reassuring hand on her daughter's arm as she could see just how nervous the young girl was. Donna felt bad for her daughter because she could already see how the night was going to play out as the mother of one had been through the same thing when she was her daughter's age.

Without saying a word, Willow made her way up to her room and decided that to calm her nerves, she needed to call Lara. Lara was a straight talking kind of girl, she would never beat around the bush and would instead just come out and say things the way that they are. That's exactly what Willow needed right now.

"Wills, what's up? I thought Ben was coming for dinner?" Lara asked down the line, not really sure why her best friend had called her and it not really clicking that maybe the reason was because the brunette needed some moral support and motivational words to get her through the night.

"He is but I'm shitting it here, Lara! If tonight doesn't go well then we're done for. Fucked!" Willow was beginning to let her nerves get to her and so she started to ramble, talking Lara's ear off.

"Okay, okay," Lara sighed down the line, desperately trying to get her friend to calm down. The older of the two girls had a theory that if Willow and Ben were relaxed around Donna and Vincent like they were when they were with their friends, then surely the Hargreaves would see how the two brunettes were a match made in heaven.

"Stop stressing because you know that whatever happens, you and Ben still love each other. You have us who will help you. Try and enjoy your evening with your overbearing parents." Lara calmed her best friend's nerves and hung up the phone, hoping that Donna and Vincent Hargreaves would approve of Ben but the girl who had trained as a lawyer didn't hold out much hope.

Willow and Lara had met at an event that they were both required to attend. Willow was still in high school so was forced to go to explore her options for higher education. The brunette girl wasn't interested. She had never known what she wanted to do after school and everyone around her were trying to pressure her into picking something. Willow Hargreaves didn't succumb to the pressure though. Lara had attended since she was a part of the organisation committee. The girl had gone to university to study law and when she met Willow, despite the four year age gap between them, they immediately hit it off and became close friends. Lara liked how Willow was willing to live life as it came to her for Lara wished that she could be more like her brunette friend.

"Willow!" Donna called on her daughter for the second time that day and the tanned girl sprinted down the staircase, almost tripping over her feet as she did so.

"Compose yourself, child." Vincent scolded his offspring as he opened the front door to reveal a very nervous looking Ben Chilwell.

Ben was dressed in a pair of formal trousers and a plain white shirt with a tie. His hair was gelled back even though Willow preferred it without the slicked back look. He held a bouquet of flowers in one hand and a bottle of the most expensive red wine he could find in the other. Ben Chilwell had put in an extraordinary amount of effort for the evening with his girlfriend's parents.

"Mr and Mrs Hargreaves, it's a pleasure to meet you both." The footballer gave the couple a nervous smile as he spoke the words that he had rehearsed over a thousand times standing in front of his mirror before he left the house.

"Willow, you look beautiful tonight," Ben told his girlfriend. He felt the nerves in his stomach settle slightly when he looked at his girlfriend. It was like everything around him blurred. Willow really was the focal point of his whole world.

Vincent scoffed at the boy's words before stalking off into the dining room to check that the candles were still burning. If Ben was lucky, the wicks would have burnt out and Vincent wouldn't have been able to set the poor boy alight.

"I brought the finest wine I could find." Ben held his arm out to hand Donna Hargreaves the bottle of alcohol but as he did so, the neck of the bottle slipped from his hand and landed on the floor. The crystal bottle smashed into thousands of tiny pieces and the crimson, red liquid splashed all over the wooden floor, staining them and the cream rug in the hallway.

"I'm so sorry! I'll pay to get it fixed-" Ben started in a panic at what he had done but was cut off by Vincent's gruff voice.

"And how will you do that, huh? You have money?" The older man questioned, more like interrogated, the poor boy.

"Dad, he has money." Willow sighed, realising how much of a disaster the night had been. She wasn't going to ever have the chance of marrying ben and she knew that now.

"How so? What's your job, boy?" Vincent talked down to the brunette boy, not believing that he could be good enough for his precious little girl.

"I'm a professional footballer, sir. I play for Leicester City." The defender's voice squeaked out, clearly intimidated by his girlfriend's dad. Ben had faced plenty confrontation on the pitch but the big, angry strikers he had faced were no match compared to Vincent Hargreaves.

"That's not a stable income. One career ending injury and you'll be stuck. You can't marry him, Willow. I want him out of my house."

That was the end for Willow and Ben. The footballer had failed to impress the all important man and now Willow would be forced to marry Brandon Gardner whether she liked it or not.

How's everyone today?
- I'm good. Hibs won so the weekend is set up to be a good one! Although I'm scared that Porteous and Nisbet are going to get sold because Millwall and Birmingham City are rumoured to be bidding in the millions (that's a lot of money for us). It would be devastating because we've only had 6 months of Nisbet and I've still never seen him play :( regardless of what happens, I hope it's best for their careers.

Enjoy and stay safe!

Lots of love, e x
