Are these men serious?
For the past forty minutes, this meeting has consisted of bickering and petty remarks regarding past plans that failed.
Can't they just move on?
They've literally wasted so much time talking about negative past outcomes instead of new ideas to improve and build up the city in finance and employment.
Why is this city run by ignorant 'adults'?
"Maybe we should just reschedule this meeting," I spoke up.
At this point, the meeting is due to be over with no good progress. Why not just end it now? I'm tired of hearing them talk about nothing important.
"Mayor Parke, it seems like your assistant needs a little more teaching on manners. Doesn't she know how to stay quiet in our meetings?"
I know that bald-headed, crooked-toothed, elephant wasn't talking about me.
I gripped the edge of the table to stop myself from jumping over and knocking his tooth back into place.
"She does, Stan," The mayor replied to the thing, then turned to me, "Apologize."
Kiara, he's your employer. You can't smack him. If you smack him, that cheque is gone sis.
Just breathe.
"I'm..." Mr. Mayor narrowed his eyes at me and that angry look he had early was back again. This time his eyes seemed to challenge me as if saying 'Say one wrong thing'
"I-"
"She's not gonna apologize," For the first time since the meeting started, Cole spoke. "There's nothing wrong with what she said. I actually agree with her. Just reschedule this meeting for when you men are ready to sit down and talk like adults. You're all annoying me with your conversations based on the same stupid shit."
As much as I'm glad Cole stood up for me, the way his father looked at him made me wanna say a prayer for his soon-to-be departed soul.
"Cole, leave the room," Mr. Mayor said through clenched teeth, looking directly at his son.
"Nah, I don't feel like leaving." He leaned his head back on his chair and closed his eyes.
Damn.
The Mayor got up, "This meeting is over. My assistant shall inform you of the rescheduled date as soon as possible. Thank you for attending. Please, show yourselves out." With that, he walked out of the room, leaving all his notes and laptop.
Well this is awkward.
I stood up, "Tomorrow an email will be forwarded to all of you regarding the rescheduled date."
I started gathering my things, ready to leave.
"Good," The same bald-headed governor said, "Do what you're paid for. If the new date isn't sent by noon tomorrow, I'll have a chat with Mayor Parke about your unacceptable performance as his assistant."
Don't do it, Kiara.
"Listen here, Mister! I don't work under your command. What you say means nothing to me. So get your fat self up and out the door with your nasty attitude!"
I'd admit it, I did walk into this meeting with hopes of impressing the governors. Unfortunately, their stupidity and that one's unwanted attitude have made me had it with them.
They call themselves adults? They help run this city?
"You have no right to speak to me like that!" He shouted and slammed his fist on the table.
Why he gotta hit the table?
"And you have no right talking to her like that." Once again, Cole stood up for me.
I smiled, someone is on my side.
"This bitch is disrespectful!" He barked.
Woah! This hippo is getting beside himself and it's taking a lot of self-control for me not to jump over this table and beat his a*s.
"Leave now before I drag you out with a bloody nose, broken jaw and maybe a fractured rib." Cole's threat wasn't even to me, yet I felt a wave of fear wash over me.
Seems like Humpty Dumpty felt it too, because his face paled a little.
"While you're at it, knock his teeth back into place," I mumbled.
"I will have your father deal with the both of you." The thing quickly got up, "This disrespect will not-"
"Shut up," I said with an eye roll. I don't know where this confidence is coming from, but his voice is just so annoying.
"Listen here, bitch-"
"What the fuck did I say?!" Cole's outburst was unexpected.
The other governors seemed to take that as a sign that Cole wasn't playing and immediately started packing up their stuff.
"I think you should leave," I whispered to Mr. Attitude. He stood with his mouth open. "Don't say any more stupid shit now." I warned him.
Cole still sat with his head back and eyes closed as if he didn't just scare a room filled with very important men.
All the others left the room already and it was only us three remaining.
"If I open my eyes and you're still here ..." Cole started. His voice held a promise and I'm glad I wasn't the one it was told to.
"I-I'm leaving!" He didn't even bother taking his stuff. Almost tripping on his own feet. In seconds, he was out the door.
I couldn't help it, I laughed. His ignorance and fear was actually hilarious. The look on his face, when Cole shouted, was too good.
I leaned over the back of the chair and held my stomach, laughing continuously.
"You laugh beautifully, Skittles."
