The Kissing Game. It was the game where a single kiss was passed around to student after student with whoever had the kiss last on the last day of school being the winner who was crowned the Holy Kisser. The only rule was that the student had to be a senior, which I was. Everyone was obsessed with the game and participated in it, except me. And not because I didn't want to participate in the Kissing Game, but because no one would pass me the kiss because my sister, Zoey, had been the Holy Kisser three years ago.
Because my sister had once won the game by becoming the last person to get the kiss – despite hating the game with a passion – everyone made it their own inside joke to make sure I couldn't get the kiss. No matter how hard I tried, no matter how many girls I flirted with, they wouldn't give me the kiss. Just because three years ago, my sister had won.
And usually, I wouldn't have cared about winning such a stupid game. Being the Holy Kisser was never something I dreamt of, but because of one girl - one beautiful, amazing girl, I was desperate to get the kiss and win the game. Because Ella, my crush since freshman year, would only date the winner of the game, I was growing desperate to win.
I was in my English classroom with my best friend, Parker, and we were waiting for our English teacher, Mr. Arthur, to come to class. And while I waited, I stared at Ella. She was a petite blonde with big, blue eyes. She was always smiling, always so friendly and she was in a million clubs and everyone knew her. Everyone wanted her, but she didn't want anyone. Not unless they could prove themselves as the Holy Kisser.
"Dude, talk to her," Parker said. "You've had a crush on her since freshman year and she doesn't even know you exist. Just talk to her."
"I can't," I said. "Not until I become the Holy Kisser. She said she'd only ever date whoever won this game."
"I can't believe someone would use that as a trait they desired in a partner."
I rolled my eyes, ignoring Parker's comment. I didn't understand why Ella desired that, but I respected it since everyone wanted to be the Holy Kisser. For some insane reason it was a title that held power, which was why I didn't blame Ella for being interested in someone who could win.
"It's not fair that I'm being punished because Zoey won three years ago," I said, huffing. "She didn't even want to be a part of the game, but it was forced on her! And now people are forcing me to not get the kiss. What bullshit!"
Parker snorted and I shot him a look. He smiled smugly then and I sighed, thinking about my dilemma. I didn't know what to do about the kiss. A month had flown by and no one would dare give me the kiss. No matter how much I flirted, no matter how desperate I became, no girl would dare kiss me. And it was all because Zoey was once the Holy Kisser.
"Honestly this game should have burned in hell the year your sister won the game," Parker said, groaning. "This game is literally a game of who can catch chlamydia first."
"Dude, you can't get chlamydia from kissing," I said, narrowing my eyes at my ignorant friend. "Come on."
"Fine, but you catch my drift right?"
Once again, I rolled my eyes, even though I understood where Parker was coming from. The whole idea of the Kissing Game was so stupid. But yet, everyone played it. Even I wanted to play it, but my stupid classmates weren't letting me.
"Dude, what should I do?" I asked, running my fingers through my blonde hair. I felt stressed as I wondered how I would win Ella's heart. Without the kiss, I was screwed. "I can't get the kiss. No matter how hard I tried, no matter how much I flirt, no girl wants to give it to me. What should I do?"
