I groaned at the sound of the doorbell ringing. I'd been napping and because I was home alone, I had to grab the door. So stretching out my tired body, I got up from the couch I was laying on and ran to the front door. And throwing it open, my eyes widened when I saw Sophie standing before me.
"Oh, hey," I said, stunned. "What's up?"
"Hey," Sophie said, her eyes fighting to meet mine. "I got the kiss."
My jaw dropped. Sophie was squirming in front of me, but her eyes held a determination in them that left me staring at her, unable to believe what she said.
"Wait, what," I said. "You got the kiss? When? How? What?"
I felt like I was dreaming. I rubbed my eyes, trying to snap myself out of the daze I thought I was in. But as Sophie stared at me, looking nervous, I realized I wasn't dreaming.
"You know Mason? Wears glasses, head of the chess club?" Sophie asked. I nodded, thinking about the curly haired boy who was a nervous mess. "Well, I found out he had the kiss and I saw him at the mall. I talked to him for a bit and then asked if I could kiss him, and he let me. So now, I have the kiss."
"Oh wow," I said, stunned. "I can't believe this. I knew you'd get the kiss one day, but I didn't think you'd get it now."
Sophie was smiling a bit now and my eyes softened at the sight of her. Months ago we'd just met. Sophie had somehow agreed to help me and I hadn't thought much of it, but now she had actually done what I asked. I couldn't believe it.
"Thank you," I said. "Seriously, I'm so proud of you. You really tried your best and I'm so grateful."
Sophie was smiling widely now. Her eyes were gentle on me and I gulped, realizing what would happen next. I clasped my hands together, wondering how I would initiate this. For some reason, I felt scared to ask her, so I just stood there staring at her.
"So, should I pass the kiss to you?" Sophie asked.
Her face was flushed now. She was now looking down, her eyes wavering as she waited for my response.
"Yeah, sure," I said. "Thank you."
Sophie looked up then and for a moment, we stared at each other. Sophie's eyes were glued to mine and I stared at her, feeling my heart pound. And when she began to tippy toe, I leaned forward and let my eyes fall shut. And before I knew it, my lips were meeting Sophie's.
The kiss started off gentle. And I knew I was supposed to pull away, but for some reason I didn't want to. So when Sophie wrapped her arms around me and pulled me closer to her, and deepened the kiss, I only kissed her harder. I placed my hands on her hips and pulled her to me, and there we were making out on my front porch.
Sophie was passionate with her kisses. Her lips molded onto mine and her hands ran through my hair. And when she gripped onto my hair, I gasped gently between her kisses and felt her smile against my lips. And unable to help it, I smiled back.
Sophie and I continued to kiss each other for a moment, and I couldn't help but think about how right this felt. I thought about how her small body fit into mine perfectly. Of how our lips meld into each other's as if they were made for each other. And as Sophie smiled again, I felt my heart melt and I smiled, thinking about how at peace I was.
But then, I remembered Ella. And with the thought of Ella, my eyes flew wide and I immediately pulled away. I dropped my hands off Sophie and stepped back, horrified by what I'd done. And as I stared at Sophie panting, I saw a look of hurt spread across her face.
