Dazai Osamu had always been a suicidal maniac. Dazai always thought there was no value in living... until he met Chuuya...

I have this feeling that they made anime Dazai a lot more mature, but in the novel, he's more like--soft? I was not really happy with them cutting out these quotes though...

Quotes from the novel:

"Because 'dying' isn't the opposite of 'living', it's nothing more than a feature incorporated into 'living'. Breathe, eat, fall in love, die..." (Dazai)

 I'm really interested in the 'fall in love' part... Why now you wanna fall in love after meeting Chuuya? Now that it occurs to you that falling in love is a part of life?  ─=≡Σᕕ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ

"...Finish this job safely, join the mafia. Defeat him. Also—" (Dazai)

"Also?" (Chuuya)

"I haven't fulfilled my promise to use you as my dog."(Dazai)

 O_O And now you wanna live just to use Chuuya as your dog? It's literally equal to Chuuya is the reason Dazai wants to live (~￣³￣)~

Guess who made sure soukoku was formed? Mori-San.

Another part, a very very very very(?) important part was not in the anime (due to lengths and to fix some bugs I guess) because they changed the plot of the fight. In the novel, Dazai ended the battle by tying one end of a red ribbon to Chuuya and holding the other end, which then he nullified Randou's ability. The ribbon was the one Dazai used to decorate the party.

Now. The ribbon could have been any color, but it had to be "The Red Thread of Fate". In a book by Dazai Osamu, he wrote about finding his wife through The Red Thread of Fate. 

In general, it was said that an invisible red string ties you to your soulmate, and it won't break no matter how far apart you are, nor would it tangle no matter how close you are.

COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!
