Ch.20 You're Lucky

My eyes fluttered open as the sun peeked through my curtains. A single tears fell from each eye as I just stared at the light that was barely shown in my room... Suddenly, my phone rang on the nightstand as I turned my head slightly. Reaching over, I grabbed the device and looked at the caller ID. It read Lelouch. My thumb trailed over the talk button until it slid to the end button, pressing it to decline the call before setting the phone back down. My phone rang again as I was ready to decline Lelouch, until it read a different name.

"Kallen." I said. I pressed the button and held it to my ear. "Hello...?"

"Kari? Is that you?"

"Yes."

"Zero and Spectra said you were hurt yesterday, what happened?"

"Shrapnel in my arm and my body was scratched to hell."

"How...how is your arm?"

"It hurts." I said simply, staring at the ceiling blankly. "It is very sore and I can barely lift it."

"Oh, well...we have orders from Zero that we're going on a short trip tomorrow. Will you be joining us? Zero wanted me to ask..."

"I don't know yet. I'll let you know if I feel any better..."

"All right. So you won't be at school today either?"

I smiled to myself, at least she cares. "No, not today. Tell Madame Prez for me, will you?"

"Okay. See ya." She said.

"Goodbye, Kallen..." I said before hanging up.

Setting my phone back down, I suddenly felt very hot. I slowly got out of bed and went over to my vanity, digging around until I found a thermometer. Turning it on, I placed it in my mouth. A minute later and the device beeped. Taking it out of my mouth, I sighed as the number read 104.3. All this stress must be making me sick... Putting the thermometer away, I sat back down on my bed and grabbed my phone, dialing a number as I held it to my ear.

"Hello?"

I smiled to myself. "Lelouch, are you there?"

"Yes. Is something wrong?"

"Would you mind stopping by? I'm not feeling all that well... My temperature is through the roof and I can barely move my arm as it is..."

"I'll be right over. Just lay down and I'll be there soon." He said before hanging up as I set my phone down, crawling back into bed with the one good arm I still had.

There was a knock at my door before it slid open to reveal Lelouch. He came over to me and placed the back of his hand on my forehead. "You're burning up..."

I just shrugged lightly. "Must be all the stress..."

"And the fact that you haven't been sleeping more than a couple hours each night."

"I can't sleep..."

"Well you're going to now. I need you well for tomorrow night because you need to pay the role of Spectra for this plan."

And to prevent Shirley and Valletta from finding you out...

I still felt a little groggy, but I had to push through as I was in my Black Knights outfit. Lelouch gave me a brand new outfit since my last one had been ruined in which I thanked him. But if I'm gonna make sure Shirley and Valletta don't find out Lelouch's identity, I'm gonna have to hide mine first. After putting my coat on over my tank top, I combed my hair before trying to put it on top of my head, but I was interrupted by a knock on the door.
