I tap my food impatiently as I wait for my little bird to arrive. I mean, I already consider her my wife but apparently we still need to get engaged
My eyes search for him, trying to find where he is and if Nandhika is anywhere close to him.
Thankfully but sadly for him, she's standing with Prathyum and Arya at the very end of the hall, and he's in the front corner, smirking at me
I know he's hiding his pain, I don't want him to. I know how much it hurts him to see someone else get engaged when he can't even stand next to his wife
I pass him a sad smile, but he shakes his head, telling me to be happy and forget about him

My eyes snap back to the door as I hear the sound of anklets. My eyes widen at the sight of my little bird, dressed like a dove

It suits her so much, although why she's wearing it isn't really something that settles well with me
She's simply wearing it to cover the numerous scars on her body, which makes my eyes twitch as I remember the amount of pain she has gone through
She comes up to me, eyes cast down, which makes my hands itch to tilt her chin up. She finally looks at me through her lashes which only makes me wonder why she's acting like a new bride.
She looks the other way shyly which makes my frown increase. I have no idea what's got into her and why she's acting so docile in front of me. I thought we got past this stage.
I want my confident queen, not a shy docile women
The urge becomes too much and I lift her sweet face up in my palms, causing the people to hoot
"What's wrong?" I whisper and she shakes her head, assuring me nothing is wrong. I leave her face, but this time she keeps her gaze on mine
"Its time" The priest says and Prathyum and Nandhika stand by my side along with Arya while Nishka's parents stand next to her. Nandhika passes along a plate with a saree, bangles and other jewels to Kanishka's father and her mother gives us the same, except for it is a groom's clothes along with fruits
They pass the engagement ring to the both of us and I carefully place it on my little bird's finger, happy to assert my claim on her. She does the same, although after that, she picks my hand up and sends a sneer to her female cousins who were ogling me

After that, the priest sets an auspicious time, which is sadly 6 months away which makes both me and Kanishka exchange dissappointed glances
After this, it's just an act of 'trying to push your lips apart' challenge as Kanishka quotes it, trying to maintain a huge smile in front of all the relatives
We finally get some peace and I spot Nandhika walking fast, probably trying to catch Arya who was running everywhere
Kanishka immediately puts a leg out, which makes Nandhika trip and fall forward. He is quick to catch her, she opens her mouth to say thank you, but he quite literally pushes her away and walks off
She stands there with a confused look on her face thinking why on earth he did that. She probably thinks she doesn't even know him
Stupid girl. She's first only so stupid and all horrible things happen in her life only.
My little bird comes and occupies the position next to me again, looking at me as if nothing even happened
"Good job" I whisper to her, feeling nice to have someone assist me with my plans
"I know she whispers back before disappearing into the crowd

Kanishka's pov
I hear my mother calling me, and turn around to be met with the three of them standing near the exit, saying thank you to all who are returning
"Amma?" I ask her and she signals for me to come closer
But before she can say anything, Ms. I'm-failing-but-I'll-still-ruin-you cuts her off and starts with her chatter
"Actually mama.. I remembered something! We forgot to tie neem onto their wrist!" She says, which makes me think of which new plan she has invented
"Neem? Why?" Mother says, her nose scrunching up at the mention of neem as she hates its smell
"Ma.. The bride and groom can't see each other after nishchayam tamulam (or engagement as North Indians call it) na? Did you forget? They can see each other only on wedding day" she says showing off her pearly white teeth as if she has secured a Nobel prize in physiology and medicine
"What?! What kind of tradition is that?! I'm pretty sure even ma didn't do it!" I say
If this women tries to ruin the only thing that has ever gone right in my life, I'm just gonna grab Aarav's revolver and shoot her in the head
"Yeah, what your saying Kruti! In olden days they used to never see the groom's face till wedding night also, so we can't do that right?" Mother tells her and dad nods
Her face falls at her constantly failing attempts to ruin my life, your evil plots will only work for so much time love (A/N: Above sentence does not apply for author. My evil plots will work forever😈)
She glares at me angrily but I just give her a oh-so-sweet smile
