                             Zen's POV

I got Adam's voicemail. I'll just let it go, I don't keep malice with people. Typical Adam wouldn't have said anything like that; I'm a hundred percent sure Richard has something to do with this.

[Just about to call him]

A text message?

Adam: Hi Zendaya. I don't know if you got the voice mail. Anyway, I won't be coming over tomorrow. I'm so sorry but I have to assist with the anniversary and also, Richard and I have to visit the mall to get suits for Saturday. I'm so sorry about this but I'll try to make time for the tutorial arrangement. Thank you.

Are you for real Adam? This is the height of it. I thought you were better than this. Calling you to speak sense to you will probably provoke you. I'm not ready for a second part of what happened today

I switched off my phone

Kenzie's POV

I knocked on Zen's door

"Who's there?"

"It's Kenzie" I replied

It's like I'm entering the lion's den. But, I need to speak to her

"What do you want?" She inquired

"Can I come in?" I changed the subject

"Sure" She responded

She was looking out through the window when I entered. She does this when she's furious.

"Can I have a word with you?" I asked calmly

"Shouldn't you be doing your assignments or reading?" She asked

"I'm done with my assignments" I responded

That's a lie, I can't do it all by myself. Zoey and I will rush through it before class tomorrow

"Okay, what do you have to say?" She said

"Remember when we were in Chicago; anytime you were furious or disturbed, you'll always tell me what's wrong. I do the same when I'm also furious, we called it "The Sister's Code". I know you've grown past that age but we're still sisters. You can tell me what's on your mind, I'll hear you out" I said with the sweetest and softest voice I did not know existed

She turned and stared at me.

"Oh Kenzie, you've grown. I really appreciate that you care about me but I'm fine" She replied

"You're not Zen. You did not eat your food, you were also not excited about the movie. You're not like this what's wrong?" I questioned further

She sighed

"I'm just disturbed because someone spoke rudely to me today" She confessed

"Who did that to you? Tell me, let me teach that person a lesson he or she won't forget" I said clenching my fists

She laughed

Okay, I did not expect that.

"It's fine, I'm better now" She added

"I'm sorry about what the person did. You know what? Why not finish your food and you'll tell me all about it" I put forward

"Great idea, race you to the dining room" She expressed running off

"Not fair" I declared following her

Zen's POV

It's like Mackenzie got matured overnight. She's the jumpy and funny girl, not the one to give advice and change your mind completely. I'm blessed. I gave her almost all the fries even though she took an extra portion before. She has gone to sleep leaving me studying what I was taught today, in the sitting room. My mum is doing the dishes in the kitchen but my dad is asleep.

"Zen, I'll love it if you can join me in the Kitchen" My mum called

"I'm coming mum" I replied closing my textbook

"I hope you're better now?" She asked as I made my way in

"Sure, I am" I responded

Anything you want to do mum, she added

"Pass the towel, would you?"

"Sure, here you go"

I don't like awkward moments like this, I have to say something.

"About what happened today mum, I'm sorry if I spoke rudely. My mind wasn't in one place so I couldn't control what I said. I hope I did not say anything hurtful to you guys?" I put forward

"No, you did not" She answered

"From what I've heard, daughters should be closer to their dad than to their mum but in my case, it's the opposite. I speak to him but I prefer talking to you first, you have a motherly touch I can't explain" I explained

"Today wasn't great for me" I added

It's as if I'm reporting how my dad went and it sounds babyish but I don't mind, as far as it'll make me feel better

"I'm all ears dear" I stated

"I think I experienced racism in a way but not totally. What happened exactly was that someone said something I didn't expect to hear" I explained

"Oh dear, sit," I told her

We sat on the kitchen stool. The night is cold but beautiful. The stars are shining brightly, the night animals have resumed. The lights are on, revealing the beauty of this city.

"First of all, please take your hair down," I said noticing her hair is in a bun.

She did

"Okay, so I had a bad day. I did not expect to hear some words from a coursemate but I did. It's really painful because aside Regina, he's like a friend to me" I expressed

She rubbed her palms together

"I remember when you were in seventh grade, your best friend betrayed you. You probably don't remember but I do. You did not cry that day, you weren't angry, you old me that the betrayal was good. You explained further by saying that if she hadn't betrayed you, you wouldn't have known her true colors. I don't know who got you angry but if it's not a misunderstanding, see it how you saw it in seventh grade. Anybody who did this to my beautiful girl should be taught a valuable lesson. You may think you're grown up but you'll forever be a girl to me. Don't let anything or anybody hinder you from being happy. I really love that you feel free to talk to me. If anything is bothering you, I'm your mother; you can tell any and everything" She declared

Thank you, mum, I'm relieved I must confess"

"I'm glad you are"

"Next time please don't go running for hours. You really scared your dad and me" She added

"I'm sorry" I apologized

"Okay, let's finish up here," She said standing

'How's work?"I questioned

"So far, it's great" She responded

"I'm glad" I added and joined her to wash the remaining dishes.
